you argue that you would pay less in taxes. well, how much do you pay in taxes that is already benefiting immigrants?

A curious question. What costs more, Detention centers (non-genocidal concentration camps) and border security or having illegal immigrations enter the US workforce?

its a perspective thing.  One guy sees a resource shortage and thinks "i had better get some before it's all gone".  Another guy sees the same and thinks "we have to figure out a better way to get more".  Both are attempts to address a perceived shortage, but one results in hoarding and other nastiness while the other results in innovation.  In a way, it is analogous to a hunter-gatherer strategy vs an agriculturalist strategy.  Geography puts serious constraints on hunter-gatherers.  They need to forage across and defend a large territory in order to provide a critical resource: food.  This puts an upper limit on population density because at some point it becomes impossible to patrol and defend a large enough area to feed themselves.  Agriculture directly addresses this resource bottleneck with an innovative solution: concentrating and controlling the food supply.  This led to surpluses which in turn led to higher standard of living and the ability to have greater population density.  It was so advantageous, in fact, that agriculturalists supplanted hunter gatherers virtually everywhere on earth.

Really, that paragraph is a distillation of the entire conservative vs. progressive debate as far as I'm concerned.  Progress is inevitable but that doesn't mean we won't have to drag the cave-men along kicking and screaming.

We have a labor market that hasn't seen real wage growth for several decades due to immigration and globalization.  That's a serious issue that lowers US citizens standard of living.

Illegals also use up to 8 times more in tax revenue than they generate.  Who makes up the difference?  US citizens.

The Elite are always pro-immigration, it dilutes wages for ALL US citizens.  They don't give two fucks about "cultural diversity" or any of the lefts talking points.  It's always about the money.

I highly doubt there's a lack of wage growth due to immigration.  More like cheap rich folks hoarding to squander on gop elections.

Yeah, no one is lobbying in DC to make sure cheap labor isn't available in the form of illegal immigrants.

It's difficult to quantify an exact amount, but that's NOT the issue here.  Money that's being spent on non-US citizens is money that could be spent on US citizens.

split_by_nine said:
there will never be a reduction of govt spending. thats ludicris. they have a budget and they decide where to use funds. they dont spend less in one area and have cash laying around. the use every dollar and then some

A reduction of spending is still a reduction of either issued debt or taxation.

now you're making me laugh. yeah it "could" be.. but we both know it won't be.  dont you realize that you and I are the ones paying for trumps kids to fly around the world and that you and I are paying for politicians to wine and dine at upscale joints? arguing that immigration spending is more of a loss than the money pissed away on corrupt politicians is just plain dumb in my eyes.

I put a good amount of thought into that post, albeit over a short period of time, so I'm glad a few people agreed with the sentiment.

ICE is starting with just a small fraction of the total illegal population, that won't change the labor market.

Yes, going after criminals. What happens when US citizens break the law? "Punitive action".
