2 different Drying techniques, and storage.

Hey there, first time hunting and drying and storing mushrooms. So I need some urgent tips!
As I am traveling and living out of my car I have no access to a dehydrator I have had to resort to using whatever I had laying around the car.
Luckily I had flyscreen and damprid and a stapler so it was possible to make a "drying rack" and use the damp rid as a moisture absorber placed in foil in a Tupperware container...
What I would like to know mostly is whether the container pictured has enough damprid (crystal calcium chloride) inside it to absorber left over moisture in the mushrooms and to help avoid mould build up if anyone has experience with this or if I should use more?
And the ones left drying in the flyscreen contraption if that way would just be better to utilize and for how long should they be left out in the open air before it starts to "damage" them?.
They were sun bleached and somewhat dry when picked and have been aired put out for 4 days before I chopped up and stored a few in the container as a tester. So far after one day the container has slight condensation inside and the mushrooms feel softer than the ones I've just left in the flyscreen? Should I let them air dry for longer before putting the rest in a container? Or could I even fill the container with uncooked jasmine rice and put the mushrooms in there with the desiccant raised above also to ensure moisture absorption or is there an even better way to dry them without access to a dehydrator ect.
How long should mushrooms keep after picking anyway outside of storage? It's also winter where I am and not humid.

Edit: I have just added a layer of jasmine rice to the ones in the container along the bottom with the mushrooms to hopefully see if it absorbs the excess condensation I'm seeing.. only jasmine rice so hopefully that's just as good as any other rice haha the ones in the container I guess is just a tester. Please let me know if you know how I can make this more effective.

the basic operation of the dehydrator is to run warm dry air around the product, to wick away the moisture. i think the flyscreen is a really good idea if you have high ambient temperatures

i have not had good experience with damprid in the past...i suspect it doesn't draw the moisture out as quickly as we would like. in any case, more is better if you're using it.

i don't think the jasmine rice would really help

it sounds like you're getting good results with the flyscreen so i would stick with that. i wouldn't worry about damage unless they're in direct sunlight

Alright sweet! Yea they aren't in direct sunlight so hopefully they should be fine then 😊 how long would you give them to dry enough to store without worry of condensation..? I estimate they have been drying for around 8 days without rain 🤔 they were found 4 days after rain, and I've had them outside drying for 4 days. I understand they won't get cracker dry this way... But could they? I'm more worried about decay and mould if they are out in the open to for too long but the air is pretty dry so.. Haha I seriously have no idea to be honest sorry if some of my questions aren't exactly answerable haha

i can't really say...i think you're doing it right and just have to see how they go

personally i wouldn't be worried about mold if they're getting drier and drier

I've attached a photo with my hand to show size. These are from the ones air-drying.
Says 2g for these guys if they were 100% dry what do you reckon they'd weigh? I'd say it's be close to 1g or would you say even less?
Really want to test them out but want to ensure for piece of mind the actual dose I'm taking.. these are subs too.

i think they would be even less.

from what i've read and experienced, the water weight is like 90-95% of the orginial mass

i have a really good dehydrator and my yield went from 45g to ~4g when I got them cracker dry

So it's winter where you are, and you're working out of a car?  Why not use the screen and run the vehicle's defrosters on high? Maybe fuel is expensive tho...

Hmm 🤔 that's an idea!! Haha never thought of that!
Also Stumbled across a thread that speaks about storing inside honey.
That might even be a better option for me considering I'm living in my car. Good way to hide it, if I it ever comes to it haha and to preserve it without worrying about it going off.

Yea I think it was much less! Maybe .8 I think in the end, they were pretty dry but know where near cracker dry. Finally ate them this afternoon and I peaked on the onset after 45-60minutes after indigestion, and that lasted for an hour, really subtle happiness but not ecstasy but real intense closed eye visuals and introspection. ended up watching MTV's liquid television hahaha then the after glow was another hour and back to normal. So all in all it lasted 2 hours all up 🤣
Was a good tester of my harvest though, atleast I'm confident they are good to eat for the next trip, less come up anxiety.
Been awhile since I've tripped and was more anxious because I still personally didn't trust my judgement whether they were good to eat, and only just learned about the "wood lover, paralysis" from P. Subs haha. But all good!! I'm still alive and well hahaha was a really nice short trip.
