Old Money * 1
    #26076830 -

I've been going through my grandmother's home and considering she lived here for 75 years, have been finding lots of interesting things.

My grandfather fought in WWII, I came across the first two bills with his Purple Heart and other medals.

Any history buffs know anything about them?
Nazi money? Worth a dime?

Sorry they're upside down, posting from my phone and can't correct all that easily.

Nazi money, kinda. Not worth very much in that condition at all, cooler to keep it around than to sell it. You should frame em all.

A bunch of people kept those Canadian $1 bills when they discontinued them.

That's a great idea- unless it was worth a fortune, of course.

Question is, how did my pop pop come into ownership of these:strokebeard:

My great grandparents immigrated so I'm not surprised about the Italian bill. Thanks for clearing up the Canuck one, psi.

i would save them but you could donate them to a museum.

my friend had some nazi coins from his grandfather and one day we went to a coin collector and he said they're pretty worthless. im not sure about what you have, might have some value to a world war collector.

So my pop pop drove a tank destroyer during the war, and was first on the scene to liberate Dachau(I found the photographs he had taken, as well). The nazis had already surrendered, so he didn't run the pockets of dead enemies, which was my initial thought.

The consensus from my family is:
A. He was in town and buying things
B. A local gave it to him.

I'm waiting to hear back from the other side of the family to see if they know.

One of my life regrets is not gaining family history when I was younger. I look at these photos, his badges of honor, and even these dollar bills and wish I knew the backstory.  Apparently he didn't want to talk about his time there, but his actions of bravery have died with him, and that's bothersome to me.

When I was in middle school, I remember interviewing him for a school assignment. I'm digging through everything, trying to find the cassette we filled.

I'd give you $1 US, plus postage for the Canadian dollar. I think that's about as good of a price as you can get for that crinkled bill.

I got a bunch of nazi coins off some dude for a drink at a bar.  It's cool but the fact is they made loads of them so they're not hard to come by.    If it was in perfect condition your shit might be worth something but it's all crinkled and I think if it's your grandpas relics it's going to be worth more to you than it will be to anyone else.
