Shiitake agar contam?

Curious if this looks like healthy shiitake agar or not. Got this mushroom from the grocery store.

It has been a long time since I did agar culture with shiitake, but from what I remember it looked pretty much like what you got there, maybe a little more dense but similar. Shiitake on agar is always cottony and 3d, pretty much the way oyster myc looks on agar (at first). I always added some oak sawdust to the agar though, I think the formula is 3 grams sawdust to a liter of agar (?).

A side note: If you want to store your shiitake culture for the long term, you can sterilize paper or cardboard (or just use organic non-treated kitty litter) in a small jar or vial and add a wedge of agar culture after it cools (of course). I stored cultures this way for 2-3 years and they remained viable -ended up giving them away. The last time I noc'd up some shiitake logs I used plug spawn I bought from a vendor. It's more fun (if you got the time) to do it (make the spawn) yourself though. Be sure to let the vial colonize before you refrigerate it. Good luck!
