Sprouted oats
    #26072988 -

So i 24 hour soak my grains, dry and then sterilize, I left a couple of bags for two days and the oats are starting to sprout, Should I sterilize them or throw them away?

one google search could have gotten you this answer

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/2912977

"It should be fine. I've used sprouted grain with sucess, however i have read that it increases contamination risk."

Depends on how sprouted they are. Hate to be the noobie saying use the search function but try that next time.

Um so I should take into consideration a 14 year old post that one person says they had no problem and the other one said I should, I did look at those posts my friend and all of them are talking about after sterilzation, I want to know about oats before sterilaztion with a 24 hour soak.

And all the other posts are talking about rye grains which I have never worked with.

Maybe you should spend some more time lurking instead of having an opinion on something you havent experienced, I want to hear what someone did not a supposition or an opinion.

a grain is a grain is a grain, and they are obviously talking about grains that sprouted BEFORE sterilization because it would be impossible for a grain to sprout after being cooked at 121c. The heat kills the grain. They are not talking about grains that sprout after sterilization. Yes you should consider a post that is 14 years old because grains don't evolve to sprout after autoclaving in 14 years. Do you have pictures of the grain? If they are too far along in sprouting don't use them.

Maybe you should use the search function, there are many people that have had oats sprout inside a tub SO IT IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE, and how can you say a grain is a grain there a multiple tipes of grain in the same family that dont work.

You clearly have not worked with grain long enough to know this, the Poceae family has a lot of grains that dont work so your assumption of a grain is a grain is stuipid, I have tried over 20 diffrent types of grains including doing trsnfers from one grain to another, So i should consider all those old posts that say to spray your contam with h202?? I still stand my ground that you should really learn instead of having an opion on something you have no idea about.

You have probably never even worked with diffent types of grain or maybe even grown a shroom at all and having an opinion on all these things you have no first hand experience about.(DONT BE THAT GUY)

You just make it harder for people to learn when people just type what they have no idea and have never done and just heard from someone else, this is one of the reason why there is so much disinformation.

Should be fine. Lots of new people try to be all knowing with their second hand advice

And grains have been known to sprout after sterilization.

If you let them sit for 2 days before sterilizing them I'd consider doing a longer than usual PC cycle. From what I gather that would lead to a very high bacterial endospore count. I had mixed results doing 18 to 24 hour soaks, I think it was from bacteria. Now I do a 2 hour soak for oats and PC for 2.5 hours, but I'm using jars not bags. I'm not sure how long you'd want to PC the bags given your situation.

People have shown it before. Besides some seeds are made to germinate Better from boiling or fire. Tamarind seeds grow better after boiling

how do you know those seeds were not in the coir?
A quick boil or some fire is one thing. I don't see how a seed can live threw an hour at 15 psi or the equivalent

I find it interesting you soaked oats for 2 days, do you not follow bods easy AF oat prep tek? You should check it out, oats are done soaking in 30-45 minutes instead of hours, assuming you have access to a stove you can use

It started sprouting in the jar. It's extremely rare and I know it sounds ridiculous, but it has happened...I will get a picture if it happens again.....If I remember....and I know I know!  :picdidnthappen:

But I'm usually stoned out of my gourd and I'm like, "Damn...I should've taken a picture before I mixed all that."
