My first Lionsmane, how long until harvest?
    #26035839 - 06/06/19 08:56 AM (1 year, 5 months ago)

Hi,
here is a picture of my first ever own cultivated lionsmane block. What does it look like to you and how long would you suggest until harvesting? Are there any signs, for when I should harvest?

Best
P

Within the next day or two. Spines should be about 3/16" or so long.

After harvesting the first lions mane nothing is happening. I have cut other slits into the bag already when the first one grew, but even 1,5 weeks after harvesting, there is no other knot forming anywhere.

Does the block need to be watered again? Maybe submerged for a few hours for a second fruit?

cropping cycle for lions mane can be up to 2 weeks. If you had enough water in the substrate initially you can probably get away with 2 flushes without the need to dunk it.

Ok, when no new fruit has appeared after 2 weeks since harvest, I will dunk it. For how long?

The block appears to have plenty of moisture. Size of block, substrate used all play a part. Is that bag straw?

Isn't 5 pounds what's normally used? It's not ao far away. How large do you make them?

That is only 3.9 pounds if half water then you have less than 2 pounds sawdust. Chips also are a slower food source than sawdust. I would expect another flush,  but BE on lions mane for me isnt very  high.

Ok, got it. Will use only saw dust next time. So 5 pounds is normally without water content right?

I am sorry, but what does BE stand for?

BE= Biological Efficiency

A quick Google got me to a biological efficiency of 1:3 for Lions mane

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. If a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as if a manor of thy friend's or of thine own were: any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bells tolls; it tolls for thee."
