To answer your question a little more precicely: My friend and I split a fully colonized half-pint cake, and tripped quite hard, probably around lvl 3/4. This was not a spent cake, it had not even flushed once.

The cake starts producing psilocybin once you get rhizomorphic growth I think according to Stamets (though I may have my source mixed up here. Seems worth it just to wait though...

haha, hows that taste b/c i know the smell isnt all that pleasent. I dont know if i would be able to eat one of those just straight. Ive heard of people eating their spent cakes, like making it into a tea and stuff but never heard of people eating a cake before it had started shroom growth.

Yeah there was no verm on it.. just a brown rice cake. We blended it with fruit juice. It wasn't great but it did the job. Yes i know you can get more yield if you let it fruit, we were experimenting.

You can make tea out of spent casings. I did it once, worst taste ever, but I did get to level 2 for about an hour or two. I read a real study about mushrooms and the study concluded that psy was not produced until mushrooms actually formed. I also tried a colonized cake (not fruited) and got nothing at all.

try this: for each 1/2 pint jar mix 500ml of cranberry juice with 1/4 teaspoon of vitamin C powder (grind up some vitamin C tablets), blend it with your cake, strain it out through a screen or an old shirt or something you can use to hold back the nasy verm and brf. Drink and enjoy, the cranberry juice and C will extract most of the active chemicals. You can always do it twice to make sure you get it all out. (I have done this and it does work) Granted, a fruited cake will probably be much more productive than a cake that has not fruited yet from what I have heard, but my cake hadn't fruited yet and it was still a nice trip.

To be specific there were some pins on the cake I ate, so it had begun mushroom production, but none of the mushrooms were near maturity.

I have tried the cranberry juice method, just because I had extra cakes and no room. I used 3 cakes and about a whole jug of juice in a blender. Mildly tripped for about 5 hrs.

Psyborg: Personally I wouldn't eat a cake with verm in it, let alone if its gelatin-like. And when it comes to eating the cakes, I would be damn sure there are no contams. So if you aren't 100% sure about your cake, just don't eat it.
