Was this too soon before dunking and fruiting?

First time grower and the jars looked colonized, but after 23 hours of dunking Im seeing they are not as fully colonized as I see other people's photos.
I have them in the fruiting chamber with vermiculite on them after the dunk & roll method. I had them sitting for a little over 4 weeks after inoculation.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

You usually want to let them go about a week longer after full colonization but it's too late for that now dont stress just fruit them as normal .. it's kind of like fruiting at spawning Haha

Remove the uncolonized substrate and you will be good to go. just rub it off with your hands. reapply verm if needed.

Alright, I was stressing a bit over it. I did remove as much as I could of the uncolonized substrate without touching the mycelium. I guess now its just going to take a whole lot longer to pin than if they sat in the jar another week. Oh well, as long as it happens.

Just curious. What is the reason for removing any leftover substrate? I read it and did it but dont understand the reason behind it.

Gives a nice spot for potential mold contaminants to germinate on.

yeah the uncolonized substrate is very nutritious, so if it just sits out, its gonna mold over like rotten food.

Well then wouldnt I be screwed if the cakes were not fully colonized? Because theres exposure to the substrate on the tops. Since I wasnt going to hollow out the middles on some I just covered everything as much as possible with dry vermiculite.
I'll be keeping this post updated, but for now everything looks good. Finally got the terrarium's temp set to 76 with humidity at 98%.

My BRF cakes were not consolidated before birthing them and I did the dunk n roll method before the fruiting process.
Of course, being PE and not fully consolidated I know thats the reason for the mutant blobs.
One of the cake's blobs turned green on me over night and there is another one turning green.
I removed the blob and stuck the cake back into the FC. I did the q-tip test as you can see in the pic and a certain section of the greenish/blue did remove itself onto the swap.
Is this actual mold/contam or is it just bruising?
If it is contam then was it safe to put the cake back into the FC? The cake itself has no green/blue on it, just the blob.
Any suggestions or advice? They are on day 10 in the fruiting process.

Just to close this thread with an update.
They came out fine, just more mutant blobs on my first flush than I wanted due to lack of consolidation.
Here is my 2nd flush 7 days after the dunk:

Make sure next time you wait till they are 100% colonized, then wait another week to finish consolidating. Really important.
But yeah, remove the uncolonized BRF-mix with your hand and continue with fruiting.
