NO-POUR containers thread,
    #26069924 - 06/23/19 09:17 PM (1 year, 8 months ago)

Ive been trying different no-pour containers for quite some time to try to find the best one's. I thought it might be cool to make this thread so I can share what I found, and to see what everyone else's favorites might be.

I love these!
They are cheap, square ones are 8 for a buck, and the round ones are 10 for a buck. Easy to see through, and pretty easy to handle with one hand, with a little practice. I like to stack them in three's. They stack nice and neat.
Fit in bags nicely as well, I like the square ones better, easier to handle, the lid on the square one's fit tighter, and stack better. These were found at a dollar store, and DID NOT say pp5. They didn't have any "PP" rating. I bought one set of each and ran them through a PC cycle to see how they would hold up. Some are on their 3,4th PC cycle with no signs of weakening, or warping, lids still snap down nice and tight. Looking forward to see what other people might have come up with!

I just pulled the trigger on these. I'm tired of 1/2 pints. most times i pour steaming hot agar and over time the rapid heating cracks the glass. the main reason i have come to hate them is the bevel. when you go to cut a culture in half and try to scoop it out the center has a very small tapered edge to flip over . thats one reason i liked using glad mini rounds before the lid gets all wonky.

edit:they all melted. dont buy these even though they say pp5.

Check out the link I posted.

You can't compare price, or quality with what i shared.

Obviously my opinion, but 250 containers for $18.30 is un-beatable

you most certainly can compare the two objectively.

the containers you linked have thins walls, beveled bottom, and the lid doesnt snap fit. thats a deal breaker for me. for these type of deli containers i trust josex opinion after using multiple brands over a year.

The lid does snap fit, I don't know how you could assume that from photo's. I can tell you first hand that they do.

I dont understand why you would want thick walls?that makes absolutely no sense to me

The bottom may be the only concern? And even that, I don't see an issue with.

thin walled plastic containers can deform over time from pc cycles and the lids can get wonky.

i would prefer a thick walled container with a clear top for viewing:cool:

I've tried mason jars, betty Crocker, sure fresh (dollar tree), glad, deli containers and salsa containers. Jars suck, the rest are decent except for the containers OP posted, the lids are trash on those, I've used them for taking prints, that's it. The salsa containers are by far the best but at 4 bucks a pop, hell. The ones Trich posted loom awesome, I'll be trying those next. One order would put me around 500 reusable plates total, that's more than I'll ever use, I cycle out below par cultures regularly and slant my isolates.

So your saying every containers are good, except the ones I posted? Pretty rude, I think. 3,4 PC cycles and their still holding well. Ive tried everything but the ones Trich suggested. I didnt make this thread to find the "best", I made it to see what other people like. Its a highly opinionated topic. I dont want a bunch of people arguing here. Keep your opinions to yourself

i remember  10 years i wanted to put agar in widemouth half pints to pressure cook them. I got torn up relentlessly,
" why would you want to do agar work down in a well"
now you all do it like its the norm.

They make petri dishes you know.  Why would you want your agar at the bottom of a well, when the mycelium isn't going to produce enough heat to get rid of the gasses?

By the way, there's been hundreds of agar in 1/2 pint posts, almost all reporting failures.  The search engine will show you the way.

edit- im not trying to prove a point. just what i was thinking atm. sorry to use a outdated RR quote i know how much yall love that.

I really dont like no pours.... But I really hate the idea of ordering huge boxes of petris every couple of months. Thats my motivation.
