That was a lot longer ago. This is more recent history. Slavery was only abolished 154 years ago (i looked it up). That's relatively recent.

Take food stamps. I pay taxes for food stamps. We all do. Some people choose not to work, or work very little because they don't want to but want free food. Is it fair that we have to pay for that? Not really. I think paying back the African Americans for what their ancestors went thru is a more Noble cause.

Ok, how bout this. Native Americans have reservations, what if African Americans descended from slaves got some kind of land ownership, either individually or some plot of land.

Taxation to pay for social benefits is NOT the same as paying slave reparations, so stop trying to make that analogy.

Then private citizens can always donate for that cause, don't force me to pay from taxation.

Again, let them have a private fundraiser or something, just stay out of my wallet with this nonsense.

This is all about making racial relations in the US even worse than it is today, I find that highly problematic.

Certainly there’s no long term animosity from centuries of slavery, subjugation, and imperialism.

Also, its not many people who are African American. Only about 13.9% of the total US Population. That's not very much people compared to the white population. Whites are way more common in the US than Blacks.

There isn't broad enough support for it even within the left-wing.  Anyone that flogs this issue on the campaign trail can only hurt themselves and the democrats have made themselves vulnerable in the very places they need to beat trumpy the most by even bringing it up.  Let a sleeping dog lie.  Make society more equitable so that it becomes a moot point.  The public at large will support that much more readily.
Its a prgmatic view that dpesn't take into account the right and wrong of the issue but rather what the likely outcomes are.

First of all lemme go ahead and agree that it’s a political loser, right now at least.

But Bernie’s thing is basically “we’re gonna enact programs that disproportionately benefit the poor community, which is largely African American and Hispanic.” It’s a reach, but it’s a decent enough way to thread the needle and advocate for helping out the people that the US government systematically fucks over.

If we use their logic, the black slave traders who sold their kin into slavery should be taxed.

Then we should tax the Muslim arabs who kidnapped whites from their Homeland and enslaved them in the middle East. They also did this with blacks.

Acknowledgement of the past and social revenge are two different actions.

We both know Warren and other Dem's are just trying to top each other with this social justice reparations. None of this makes any sense at all and the average US voter can't relate to it.

I dont care if it was written by Gandhi or the Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan, you will only post stuff pertaining to black people when the not-so hidden goal of it is to take something away from them or to directly or indirectly discredit them.

When they vote Trump and when no reparations or any sort of correction to persisting injustices is suggested, you cheer it, you are their champion.

You are a champion of taking things away from them.
