Atropa Belladonna, what's wrong with my plants?
    #26066950 - 06/22/19 03:26 AM (4 years, 7 months ago)

I have been growing Atropa Belladonna (deadly nightshade) from seed, and now that the plants have gotten to a decent size I'm experiencing some issues. I had a red spider mites infestation a while back, and I since got rid of them. Now I'm experiencing new problems, and I don't think they are spider mites. I'm thinking a fungus or some sort of deficiency, as you can imagine couldn't find much on the Internet as not many people are growing belladonna in their garden. Figured this might be a good place to ask:

As you can see, the leaves turn yellow and then red. The stem is red as well, which maybe is the color that it's supposed to be, or else it could be sign of a systemic deficiency. The stems get greener as you go up the plant.

Have you used some strong pesticides when getting rid of the mites?
That could do things like this.
If you cant see any bugs if looking under magnification i would do a repot.
Then you can examine the roots and see if the problem is there and get rid of old pesticides stored in the soil.
And with new fresh soil it probably get all things it needs, if the problem is some kind of lack of some compound like iron, magnesium or whatever.
So if doing a repot into new soil you can take many possible causes off the list.

Thanks. What I used was a solution of pyrethroids and abamectin. Both shouldn't linger for long theoretically, but who knows. I have indeed repotted just the other day, though I didn't remove the old soil, just added some and moved the plant to a bigger pot. I have another plant exhibiting the same problem, I will repot that too and wash the roots to remove most of the presumed contaminated soil. I will post a pic of the roots if that's helpful (will do the repot in a couple days, don't have the time rn).
