Well since i was a newb once(and still am), and theres millions of newbs around. I decided to post a tiny thread here on different Agar recipes and the Nutrient charts. could an admin sticky this for a while so some newbs can read up on this?
so lets start this train
MEA (Malt Extract Agar) - i recommend this! Rated: A+
- 1 Liter of water
- 20 grams agar agar
- 20 grams barley malt sugar
- 1 gram peptone (optional)
PDA (Potato Dextrose Agar) - Rated: B
- 1 Liter of water
- EDIT: boil 300 grams of slices potatos in 2-3 liters of water, then add the milky water to the agar recipe.
- 20 grams agar agar
- 10 grams dextrose
- 2 grams yeast (optional)
- 1 gram peptone (optional)
OMA (Oatmeal Malt Agar) - Rated: D (too many contams)
- 1 Liter Water
- 80 grams instant oatmeal
- 20 grams agar agar
- 10 grams malt sugar
- 2 grams yeast (optional)
DFA (Dog Food Agar)- Never tried this...
- 1 Liter of Water
- 20 grams dry dog food
- 20 grams agar agar
CMA or CGA (Cornmeal Malt/Glucose Agar) - Haven't tried these...
- 1 Liter Water
- 20 grams agar agar
- 10 grams cornmeal
- 5 grams malt or glucose
- 1 gram yeast (optional)
Note: anything that is optional is just something that can boost the growth speed and health of mycelium and also provides more nutrients for faster/bigger fruiting.
Supplement charts
Nitrogen and carbs
- 2 grams yeast or 1-2 grams peptone
- 2 grams oatmeal or oat bran
- 2 grams rye or wheat flour
- 1 gram soybeal meal
- 1 gram spirolina
- 2 grams high quality dog food
End-substrate Supplements
- 3-5 grams sawdust
- 3-5 grams powdered straw (just chop it up finely)
- 3-5 grams sugarcane bagasse, etc...
Instructions on how to cook and prepare agar are already posted in other forums and is a basic... these are just different variations for the newbie at heart... Enjoy!

This is not quite correct.
You want water from boiling 300 grams sliced potatoes in 1 liter of water for 1 hour and then added water to 1 liter.

sorry i didnt quite say it right... your right though, you boil 300 grams of potato slices in 2-3 liters of water and ur left with a kind of milky watery stuff cause most of the water evaporates...

GGMM? Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms?... yes they are in that too! but these recipes were GIVEN to me by david aurora... he visits santa cruz often, thats where he lives if i am correct... he was here for the fungi festival and i asked him for some agar recipes...

2 to 3 liters is a big difference, and will make very different mixes.
I use
Potato Dextrose (Yeast-extract) Agar (PD(Y)A)
broth from boiling 150 grams sliced potatoes
in 500ml water for 30 minutes(add water to 500ml)
(You can use 5 g of instant potato flakes instead)
9 g agar agar
7 grams dextrose( = glucose, or 10 ml honey or corn syrup )
1 gram brewers yeast or yeast-extract (optional)
So using your recipe, I would use 300 g of potato to 1 liter of water,
not 2 to 3, which would make a weak mix.

bullshit for what... meeting david? dude hes friends with my teacher tamara, he used to bring her family home baskets of morels during the season... she knew hime while she was growing up, and she introduced me to him... hes a fruitcake... and he is always at the fungi festival here in santa cruz... i got those recipes from him... if you dont believe me thats your own deal but its true.
