Adapting Shaper’s coir tek for Bod's tub tek

I want to use Shaper’s shoebox coir tek with Bod's tub tek. I have a pile of 650g bricks and 54qt monos.
Should I hydrate a 650g brick to under field capacity, separate enough to make a casing layer, spawn to bulk, then add the casing layer on top?
Or…should I use the entire 650g brick for the substrate, then add some additional coir from another brick for the casing layer?
For the coir destined to become the casing layer, should that be hydrated separately to field capacity? And how thick should it be?

I would just bring your sub to field capacity, and use as much per tub as needed/desired If you need more, hydrate more
Keep in mind, she says under field capacity so you have an idea of how dry it should be as opposed to how wet to get it....but her under is typically at field capacity (cool mind trick to help newer culters get a better idea)
I use about 1/8-1/4 inch layer on top, I see some guys just barley dust the grain
others leave the grain exposed, I know you're trying to follow the tek so have at the top layer.
I in no way want to say anything against that tek, as I didn't follow it verbatim, but here is how my surface looks from the top soak outlined in her tek

granted I pry had a lot more to do with this outcome then the misting of the top layer, current conditions, overall saturation, maybe should have poped top on these sooner, but this is what I got

Hydrate all coir (casing/sub) the same. 3qts to a brick works every time, don't complicate.
~1/4inch casing ~ 3 big handfuls left in the bucket.

OK thanks everyone! I had a good first run, albeit with lots of side pins, because I'm a noob. I'd like to try this tactic to minimize them next run. I'm going to start prepping my coir tonight, so all your advice is very timely .
