Hey everyone!

I would really like to try/start cultivating this year. Will most likely go with the fishtank method seen here: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/24524416.

For syringes, I actually purchased about a year ago a box of 100 syringes and 16G needles, all sterile. I can't remember where, I can find if you need. It was maybe $50 but hell its a lifetime of spore syringes, every syringe I've made has never contam'd on me (about 10) somehow! Agar seems to be my weak point which always gets blotches after 1-2 days. Need to work on my sterile skills... But definitely high quality syringes.

Look for any large lab/chemist supplier online

Syringes for days
Ive had a bit of a look around and couldn't find any lab supply sites that sold needles as well, at least for a decent price. Then I thought that there should be some Aussie based myco supply stores, but apparently there aren't many.  I did find these guys https://www.aussimushroomsupplies.com/ not sure how legit they are, but I'll make the trip to their store and report back. They're Melbourne based and ship all around aus by the look of it.
They have a 23 quart pressure cooker for $180 as well, but it's out of stock till August.

Is that part of the needle and syringe program? Were the needles big enough or are they more for injecting?

Yeah man the exchange program.

12ml syringes with 18g blunt end sterile needles, I prefer non-sharp for agitating spores on foil prints

I found the site, $8.25 for a box of 100 16G needles, separate to syringes but still very cheap. All sterile!

Those guys are legit.  I've bought from them and they are very professional, prices are as good as you'll find, and quick.  I haven't been to their premises but my order landed within a few days (I'm in Melbourne).

They've also got the domain www.newgenerationmushroomsupplies.com.au for some reason, which appears to be exactly the same company. Same stock, prices, contact details etc.
I would have no hesitation recommending this company.

Damn good price for that many, I think.

That's good to hear. I did notice their other website, but I figured the AussieMushroom one was more recent. Maybe they rebranded.
I'm thinking I'll head over there when I'm ready to do Grain/Agar for petri dishes and the like. Hopefully save a bit on shipping  and to get that PC when it's back in stock since it's the cheapest I've seen anywhere. I'll just stick with doing the PF Tek and steaming until then. Hopefully it'll work out.

So I spoke to my mate who has a chemical business on the side.  He quoted me Iso alcohol for $59 for a 20L drum or I think $29 for 5L.  The 20L drum works out cheaper than metho.

I didn't ask him about shipping but if people are interested I can follow it up/arrange contact with him.

Has anyone got any info re. using metho instead?  One thing I think may be an issue is the residual smell?  Not too sure??

AussieMushrooms has rye grain for $15 for 5kg, which is slightly cheaper than santosorganics by the look of things.

I agree on looking for livestock feed stores, It's just a matter of finding one that has plain grain and not only pellets and expensive feed mixes.

Hey good peoples,

Great idea for a thread. Been cursing for a while on how hard it is to get shit that the seppo's have on every corner.
I get three 1 liter canning jars from KMart for 10 bucks.
Oats from the local stock feed shop and most other stuff from aussimushroomsupplies but living in WA the post isn't cheap. always on the lookout for a better alternative.
I did see 3kg of wheat in Coles the other day for $3. It says its for chook food and is not fit for human consumption but maybe the mushrooms will like it. Have yet to give it a go.

Cheers.

You can walk into most chemists and buy needles and syringes....they mostly seem to have 10ml syringes as the biggest ones tho.

Figured I might aswell drop a comment here to stalk y'all Westies and see if anything pops up relevant to us across the ditch

Like... don't suppose you people have any knowledge on good pressure cookers in Aussie? Seems like the best deal for us in Aotearoa is buying the 23qt presto off Amazon, which comes to a tasty $220NZ ($112 for cooker and $108 for shipping...)
