Oyster bucket help

I have these two buckets laying around I think they're 3 L. I am currently pasterizing some Aspen wood shavings and fire fuel pellets. If I was to add some oyster spawn to these buckets they should grow right? How many and what sized holes should I drill in the buckets? Should I sterilise the bucket itself before adding the substrate/spawn?

I think those are 4 liters but might be wrong.

no need to sterilise, spawning happens in open air and is not a sterile process. Give them a wash with some soap and they are good to go. 

at that size I would drill 4 holes, 10-12mm in typical grow bucket pattern.

500ml of spawn should be enough, you can even go lower, but with no other supplementation I would keep the amount of spawn on the higher side.

Where did you get your spawn from?

Thanks Circles. The company I got my last kit from replaced my dead spawn free of charge :smile: I'm not sure I'm allowed to post the name here. I might just chuck it all into one and hope I get fruits to clone.
