I also lost power during a blizzard. Power went out Friday night and wasn’t restored until
Sunday. Just enough time for the pipes to freeze.

Ever since the new regulations placed on PEPCO, power has been much more reliable. There was a period from about 2005 to 2015 when power would go out at least a couple times a year for at least a day.

the guy up the road from me said the last time he lost power since b4 that ice storm was 1974.

Last year there was a power outage while I was pumping gas. The pumps stopped working and they had to figure out how much gas I had pumped and refund my card.

Improvements to generating capacity and distribution. High loads don't cause voltage drops anymore.

I have a system installed on my AC by the power company so they can turn off my ac during times of heavy load and then there’s like a 5% discount on my power bill.

This chart doesn't really mean anything. The US is too big to compare to a lot of those countries. A lot of those places don't get hurricanes, lighting storms, tornadoes, and blizzards.

I never heard of a blackout this big, apparently it had something to do with the electrical storms we've been getting. but it probably was some other failure too for it to get so massive

We’ve had similar sized blackouts in the US. A few years ago the entire northeast US lost power for a day. Ohio to Pennsylvania to New England
