Yellow Oyster on Agar?

Does anyone have a pic of health yellow oyster on agar? I bought yellow oyster spawn from Aloha Medicinals. But it just does not look right on agar. I hear that yellow oyster is whispy so I am not sure where to transfer from any help would be greatly appreciated...

The plate was made on 4/13/19 and today is 5/16/19 the transfer was made with a single piece of grain. I think I should transfer from the center of the plate where I placed the grain.
When I received the spawn it looked very week. So I let it sit to colonize and it took forever. I called the vendor and told them I got bad spawn and they sent me out another couple bags but it is the same. This is making me think yellow oyster just looks this way.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!!

In my experience, yellow oyster doesn't develop a neat mycelium on agar plates, it makes a wispy and uneven mycelium, but it grows fast on the agar plate. Maybe you should try to transfer it to a fresh plate with a different formula (if you used MEA, try doing some PDA or DYA plates instead).
If I were you, I would transfer to fresh plate from near the edge of the plate at 6 clock position, and then transfer some wedges from the same area to grain to make some spawn and test it on substrate, as yellow is a fast colonizer and fruiter and you could fruit it 10 days after inoculation of substrate (at least on straw).

Thank you. I was hoping someone would show what a healthy petri dish or yellow oyster looks like. I guess I was asking too much. I would guess that the grains were not bad because they fruited fine. I am just not used to mycelium looking like that. I will figure it out. I will take samples from different sections of the plate and see which one performs the best. I was just hoping that someone could save me some time.
Inocybe Thank you for being the only one willing to offer your help!!!

Sorry no pics. I have had a culture that practically refused to grow on agar. It was called Tristin. Just abandoned it.
Then I got cornucopia and it produces a thicker more oyster looking mycelium.

Well, thanks for the info I guess I will take a few samples and transfer to agar and try growing them out. It fruited fine. I just thought there was something wrong with it. I am going to be hitting the farmers market and need some color to attract as many people as possible.

It looks ok. I'd stay away from the area with metabolites. I'm at home now, but can snap you a pick when I go in tomorrow.

That would be awesome! It would really help out a lot if you don't mind snapping a couple of photoes for me. Out of curiosity where would you transfer from?
THANKS AGAIN!!

Sorry about the condensation, but you can still see the asymmetrical growth. Next time I have the lid off I'll get a better one.
Looking at your top down picture, I would select from 6 to 4 o'clock. I suggest getting some solid growth without metabolites before going to grain.

Thank you! I really can't tell anything there. Do you only have growth in the center? Is there growth away from the center that is light and whispy? Anyway, you are the only one to actually take the time to show a photo so I appreciate your time.

I think some species will just have that characteristic growth. Here's a thread recently posted questioning the same type of oyster mycelium growth of flordia oysters. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26038524
And here's an updated picture of my jars that show both the more wispy growth and the thicker. I believe the really thick parts in these jars are from the agar I used to transfer, I used fairly large chunks of agar. As they aged the mycelium gets much thicker and I don't believe they are contaminated, but I could be wrong.

I inoculated near center.Torwards 3 o'clock is thick cottony growth. Unseen is thinner growth over the rest of the plate. I'll get a better picture this week.

Thank you! that is exactly how mine is so I will just roll with it. It just doesn't look right to me. I am not used to such light growth. If you do get a chance a better pic would be awesome. So I will transfer from the edge of the plate and from the thick mycelium right off the center. I am sure the center transfer will get lighter as it grows also.
Thanks Again

I don't love how the growth is all directed to one side. I'm going to take a few isolates from around 3 clock and see how they do.

Thanks for chiming in. Your dishes look a lot like mine so that relieves me.

Thanks for the better pic. I guess my concerns were unfounded.
To everyone that helped you are greatly appreciated!!!
I am getting ready to build a bagging system from air cylinders and wood. Look for the build. Heres a preview...

I can get the air cylinders from AliExpress. I should be able to build this for under $150. I think it will be well worth it considering the time it will save me. Anyway, any thoughts would be awesome.

Looks like a dry bagger. Ala mossy Creek, columbia river, I can't remember the third. Myers mushrooms has a good, if very expensive, copy with an upgraded water fill system.

I never have seen mossy creeks bagger. I will have to check it out. I am trying to build this on a low budget. My plan is to have a two-step process. Dry fill bags then step to my flow meter and fill with water. The gate valves Myers mushrooms uses are like $200 each. I think I can do the whole build for under $200. But only time will tell. for all the air parts it cost me a little under $65. I already have an air compressor so all I need is the wood. I will be using the metal from an old stove for the gate valve. Because it is coated in porcelain and won't rust. If that works I will be buying stainless steel to make it better. I am off to home depot so I can buy a 4 in yee to figure out the dimensions on some things and complete my blueprints.
