Rats were one of the smartest pets I've kept. Other than my cat smartest too,Rentin was a rescued feeder rat but lived most of his life riding around on my shoulder or in my hood or pocket.

I had pet rats when I was a kid. I think they are cool animals.

Not wild ones in the house though.

When I lived in a student house we had lots of mice. I used to catch them by hand. Rodent usually have these fixed escape routes. If you block those they get super confuzed and become easy targets to catch in a container. I used tupperware boxes or glass jars.

Released them in the front yard of a fancy mansion on the end of the street

Also killed a couple by slapping them with a roll of garbagebags

One time when I was in a student house I went upstairs for a midnight snack and chucked some bread in the toaster. I went downstairs back to my room to get something while my toast was cooking. Suddenly the smoke alarm went off so I raced upstairs. The toaster was pouring this rancid black smoke so I pulled it from the wall.

Some poor mouse had been in there eating crumbs when I chucked the bread in and dropped it down. He'd made it halfway up the bread before he succumbed to the heat and got char grilled.

The house reeked, man it smelled fucking bad hey.

:puke:

"Death to rats" has a name:

Brodifacoum 0.005% bait blocks.

That's exactly what I put up there.

It's early AM and all is quiet in my house. Not a creature is stirring...

Its several times more poisonous than most rodenticides being sold, in that concentration. They in fact even sell the stuff as 0.001%, 5x less, and its STILL effective.

Also, if they survive the poison stays in their system for 5 months, and if they in that time eat more it adds to the lethality of it.

Its the VX Nerve Gas of rodenticides, a well developed chemical weapon.

I'm doing major home improvement and today I opened up the crawlspace during work. I scattered some bait blocks in there, they'll just sit around till they get "found" by a stray rodent, if ever. Some construction companies even include the blocks in the inaccessible places of their builds, because fuck you rate :P

The moment you described that they came in through the roof I instantly knew you weren't mistaking well fed mice for rats: entering through roofs is a classic rat tactic, while mice usually come from the ground up, rats are avid and intelligent climbers.

If you don't have any pets and a big property, these are very effective and permanent, from the time (1921) heavy metal was for poisoning rats and newspapers actually had useful articles:

bro that shits really bad for hawks and Foxes and bobxats n shit. it stays in they're system an then the hawks eat a few and die. that shit shouldnt be available by the bucket to homeowners. I mean fuck what's to stop someone from doing something malicious with it anyway. start training mink and setting mechanic traps OP

Living in any domicile is technically bad for the environment, its construction causes displacement and gathering the materials causes pollution and deforestation. If all that is being done I think I'd rather make sure it doesn't burn down because of some brain-dead rodent squatters. No actually they aren't completely brain dead because they easily learn to not go near traps. They also happen to breed heavily. Much like the runaway train ethical problem,  some lives are just worth more than others specifically in regard to preceding sacrifices. I don't necessarily like it either but you're talking ethics and poison is hella effective. I've got warfarin blocks all over my house.

You're right about the hawks and foxes, which is why Brodifacoum should only be used indoors.

Personally I would prefer a rat poison based on carfentanil. Its more humane and you can pick them up right beside the bait.

Malicious people have many much better options that brodifacoum.

I smeared some sodium cyanide on buttered toast. That took care of my rat problem

Recently they were feeding on my plumbing, now most are eating an endless banquet in rattie heaven. Before that I have no idea. There's not really any organic food in my roof and they weren't in the house itself. They were ignoring both cages and spring traps.

My roof cavity is double insulated. There's thin insulation between the external sheeting and the frame work and then there's thick insulation sat on top of the ceiling panels. The bastards are cruising around under the insulation. They weren't coming out for some tasty peanut butter traps. The reason the baits work well is I am able to jam them in their scurry spaces.

A mink would be hella cool.  :awesome:  They don't exist here in Aus though.

Yes, sounds great. Needs shroomerite thinking to come up with a legit plan like this.

How the flock did you even get that, other than synthesis? Did you purify gold?

Never mind, you never know who's reading along...

I've never gone to the trouble of making it. But it's like really easy.

Bulk purchase of specific seeds from p!ants, depending on your desired quantity, refine, extraction of HCN.

It's just a lot of material vs product. Tedious, really.

Then HCN + NaOH → NaCN + H2O

It seems was more reasonable to store in a paste than a powder for obvious reasons. :glorious:

You can get it from gold? Hehe hey I love a good smelting. I bet cash for gold people have bulk.  They probably sell it.

Learning is fun.

No. One of the main uses of cyanide outside of the chemistry industry is for mining and processing gold. Gold is soluble in a dilute aqueous cyanide solution. This makes extracting small amounts of gold from dirt very cost effective.

So the first wave of rats was slain, now the second wave it being taken down. One of them is so big it's like a fucking possum. Pretty sure he's taken some bait. Fuckers ate another pipe in my roof so I was up there again pulling off roofing sheets and messing around. I bought an impact driver, was too much work before without the right tool. Easy as.

Pretty convinced that if there's a third wave the boss rat will be like a medium sized dog.

What kind of pipe is it and would wherever it leads be accessible or usable? If they are coming through the pipe, maybe you could leave a trap at the bottom of it? If it's on your roof it oughta be for heating or air flow right? Find a spot, disconnect it, and leave like a big ass storage bin at the bottom. Bonus points if you put hydrofluoric acid in it and just melt your enemies away.

All the pressured water pipes in my house are copper, except one made of poly pipe. That one leads from a corner to an extension and the rats just love to eat it. Fuckers. There's traps and bait everywhere, but they still get a munch on it before they end up dead.

When the dry weather comes I'm gonna swap it out for a proper one.

In that case I recommend building an owl sanctuary on your roof to encourage predators to feast upon their entire population. Or perhaps you could pay off some koalas to give them all chlamydia in the hopes it forms into a deadly super virus only transferrable to rats

Hmmm, the super clap for rats. Sounds legit.  :strokebeard:

If it was the right season I'd catch a python and put him up there, but all those guys have already found their hiding spot for the winter now. Slackers.
