Thanks for the heart attack M_H. Been crawling around the glasshouse with a jeweler's loop after reading that.
Seems to be a brown dust on that one not sure what it is. Could be cinnamon powder, it is near where i do my cuts and grafting. It has been quarantined now to keep an eye on it.
You did help me find some mealy bugs on another plant though. Man those things have been a nightmare since building a glass house. Many hours spent spearing them with a Trichocereus cuzcoensis spine.

Apologies, no intention to scare! This time of year in the north spider mites are going dormant with the colder temps, and are more easily noticed, as they get larger and more red. Hopefully they aren't mites waking up.

I appreciate the heads up. Just the thought of spider mites in my glass house was scary. Had them at my old house and took a bit of work to get rid of them.

Indeed. I had a few PC tips that I cut a few weeks ago for some grafts. He was on one of the bigger tips so I gently moved him to a better home. I even said out loud “since you are guarding my cacti and not touching me, you can live”. When I’m mowing and ride face first into a Nephila clavipes aka banana spider locally I’m sure I look crazy trying to get it off of me. They have large strong webs. I generally don’t kill any of the spiders but I have slapped a few and squished them, mostly out of fear of biting me when mowing. But even the black widows I see on pieces of drift wood I leave them and pick up different logs for the camp fire.

Shit Lipa, I feel your pain that was a nice plant
Found this cool little dude on the edge of a pot today, don't think I ever saw those before. Can anyone can ID it? It shines like some sort of precious stone, really beautiful.

Nice photos. It's a beautiful bug (but probably an unwanted one). It looks like a weevil, maybe a Rhynchites species.

Thanks a lot, much appreciated! Your ID seems spot-on, looking at pics it seems to be Rhynchites auratus.

That must be the local pimp in the bug world, covered in pearl and gems. Really cool, i never seen one like that.
Lipa, that must have hurt. They take a looong time to get that big. I understand your war with the snails. I have to be on the lookout for snails all the time, we have many here. I put snailpellets around my plants in the garden all the time now. The small poppy plants are especially tasty for the snails it seems.
