My reading in here suggests: Brown rice is really hard to make work properly and generally turns into a sticky mess.
Pop corn works yet the grains are too big, and there are too few inoculation points so it is slow, and therefore prone to contamination?
Wbs works fine Rye grain is awesome! Rye grass seed also apparently pretty damn good (should be available rurally, just find it without chems) Oats too Haven’t seen much on wheat, though it seems to be used.
If your best bet is wheat, find a tek and experiment, and report back with your findings
P.S. Rye is AWESOME

Whole rye seems really hard to get wrong if your sterile technique is ok. It seems like slightly too wet is better than slightly too dry, although that's contrary to what most people say on this board. But contams don't magic themselves into jars, so they shouldn't ever be in there unless whatever culture (or spore solution) you're injecting is contaminated.

Just went to Kmart today to see if I can get some decent PP5 containers to use as plates and they have a good variety. Got myself a 4pk of 250mL Anko containers for $2.50. They a bit taller than I'd like (55mm), but they're a decent price.
Previously I've been buying Value 210mL containers from New World. They're a good height at 30mm, they're completely clear, but they're also $2.50 each

Where do people tend to get their gloves from? My previous box, which I'm almost out of, came from my old work, so I haven't actually bought any before haha...

Not sure if its the same as Aus but here I head to industrial cleaning shops in those big industrial estates, or I head to PPE (Personal protective equipment) stores for tradies, they typically stock those nice blue or black nitrile gloves.

A home grow I made a couple of years ago with wood chips collected with sub mycellium. I ended up moving the whole thing to this new spot and wish I had dug it in deeper to stop it drying out so fast.
I topped with cheap potting mix and later with more woodchips which I boiled. The house did smell nice

This home patch ended up being someone elses home patch

Renting or sold up? That's the sad thing tho ae... you put all this effort into a garden and then for whatever reason you need to leave it.

The best way to combat this is to infect as many yards as possible.

@Bobbit, it's not just the shrooms tho, it's the trees, the soil, the landscaping, etc.
In relation to this tho, I have a bucket of spore slurry fermenting atm. Will leave it for another day then dilute it out and am going to go dump that shit all over the show.

I found these 'drinking glasses' in the warehouse for $1.50. - the glass seems pretty thick.

they come with a hole in the top for the straw.

I'm going to use them for grain

If you are doing grains, you can PC 1 x 1L jars. More efficient time spend doing 10 (less time per jar). Also, you’re getting $9.39/L instead of $10.38/L

Oh yeh it was a sad business leaving behind a home patch. I thought about moving some but I couldn't be bothered in the end as I was too busy. Movable plastic crates would be the go yes Blazer. Actually I can spy one out of my window atm hmmm... shall I borrow it?
