Creating a gourmet mushroom business as a cover for psilocybe?

I've read some posts about creating a cover business (auto detailing, courier, handyman, etc.) so you can deposit cash profit in that name, pay taxes, and keep your nose clean. Has anyone created a gourmet mushroom business as a cover? I would only grow psilocybe, but creating a gourmet business seems like the perfect cover. All my growing expenses could be a tax write-off, my cash deposits could be explained by selling cash only at farmers markets or restaurants, and if anyone suspected me of anything, I could talk about mushrooms without sounding suspicious. And there is a small-but-significant community of gourmet growers throughout the US, I watch a lot of their YouTube vids. Anyone ever try that or heard of this tactic?

Most of us dont grow for profit.
When you start selling the risk level sky rockets

To better cover your tracks, imo, you should grow gourmet mushrooms along side magic ones. Make time to actually go and set up a booth at a farmers market. Might have to cook the books a bit to make it seem like you're selling more than you might actually be to cover the fact that you have additional clandestine income.

I guy down the road from me had the same idea, it wasn’t long before narc detectives were paying him a visit. It wasn’t long after that he took his “mushrooms for sale” sign out of his yard.

Is any part of that serious? Obviously I wouldn't advertise.

Serious as cancer, he was not arrested or charged, but it scared him enough to stop selling “gourmet” mushrooms.

Huh, well the only public act I'd consider is filing a DBA, like "Badsponge's Gourmet Mushrooms." I would never advertise and already have trusted connections. The only benefit I can even see for doing that is I could write off my growing supplies.
Or, I could just file a DBA for a fake courier company. I could deduct mileage, but not supplies, but if that means I have a lower profile of possible suspicious activity, so be it. I'm just looking the most plausible cover business to justify my cash income.

I ran a legit mushroom growing business for about a year before grad school. I was not growing psychedelics of any sort during this time.
The cops came to visit me probably half a dozen times during that period.
Using a "gourmet mushroom business" as cover is probably the stupidest thing you could do, to be honest. It's like trying to use an "indoor grow lamps and grow boxes" business to cover up a weed grow. Growing mushrooms sounds sketchy as fuck, legal or not.

Thank you, this is exactly the kind of perspective I was hoping to get. Four years ago, I was a fairly straight-laced, goody-two-shoes, Ned Flanders-type suburban middle-aged dad. I've since gone full hippie and grow shrooms. I'm still really new to the whole culture and am simply ignorant about many aspects of it. I'll take your advice and start a business that's more...innocuous.

My homie used to run a big cartel and sell "designer clothes"
But people were just buying drugs.
He would adjust the price of the sweatshirt to say the price of a lb of weed or whatever the order was. Someone would add to cart a $2,000 shirt, buy with their debit card or PayPal and that's it.
He had it go through his PayPal business account. Paid taxes.
Definitely more lucrative ways to do it but it worked lol.

HOLY SHIT! THANK YOU SO MUCH! THIS IS IT! My gf actually makes a lot of Mardi Gras-type costumes for festivals for herself. Our apartment is littered with feathers, glitter, and sparkly shit. She's so good at it, she's thought about starting it as a side business. Well now I'm going to help her get started selling it!

I did something similar for a bit in college. I sold "abstract art" which consisted of 20$ and 60$ (generally, more than a few 300$ and 1k+$ as well) doodles that came with a little extra. Started it when those little square CC readers that plugged into your phone came out for people that didn't bring cash.

The very last thing you would want to try to do with a legitimate mushroom business is use it as a cover for magic mushrooms.
