Just wanted to share some process pictures of my Flow Hood build (24" x 36")
    #26045432 - 06/11/19 08:01 AM (4 years, 7 months ago)

Received the blower (Dayton 1TDU2) and a 24"x36"x6" HEPA about a week ago.

Two days ago I embarked on a journey to build this flow hood as fast as fucking possible after having been using a 12"x24" HEPA and just receiving government-sanctioned capitalism (business approval / department of revenue docs), thus needing to beef up capability.

After working for 18 hours straight, I've got some pics to share of the (mostly) done flowhood.  All that is left is to insert the filter and put some framing around the front to secure it in.  The blower is all wired and spins up like a charm.
I apologize I didn't take more pictures along the way, but I'm a mushroom man not a journalist. :tongue2:

- Frame constructed, caulked, preparing blower mount.

- This is the complete assembly minus HEPA & finishing touches (front framing, varnish)
[Wire cutters for scale]

- Blower mount as seen from inside the flowhood.  The blower is secured with four bolts, of which have rubber gaskets inside steel gaskets to help with unwanted vibration, has weather stripping /caulking around the outlet, and is surrounded with dense-particle foam.  Underneath the blower is a rubber mat / wood / rubber mat (5/16" thick maybe) to provide some dampening from any vibrating motion.

Ignore the mess of caulk/foam/wood glue, this will all be completely sanded a way before staining.

I will continue to update this post until it's fully completed, although I ran into a bit of an issue with my breaker box (see that post here: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26045233), though that is now fixed.

Good job on this flowhood
It looks very nice.

How much did the filter and blower cost you?
I would really like to have one though they cost a bit even if one builds the boxes and just buy the blower and filter.

The filter was expensive because I was tired of calling companies and them trying to get me to order 10 filters.  So I got the filter from fungi.com, but the blower was fairly cheap maybe around $200.  It's the Dayton 1TDU2.  I think it's a bit overpowered, but I've got the inlet choked off.

Another thing, I had to bust it open and mount a vent on the outlet where the blower goes in the box because it was creating a weird pressure difference on the right vs. left side.  The vent just blows back towards the wall/ down it a bit.

And if you're in Europe that 1TDU2 can be wired for your voltage

Did your vent fix the pressure difference problem?
One could build a thin extra wall with holes spread over it placed in front of the filter inlet to try equalizing the pressure and get a even distribution over the filter.
But if your fix works then there is no reason to do it.
I have seen some builds have this double chamber to spread the air pressure equal over the filter inlet.

I think i have 2 fans i could use if i decide to buy a filter and build a flowhood.
I have a CNC mill project to finish before i start with next project.
I would also like to build me another kind of flowhood, the ones used in chemical experiments where a fan in the ceiling of a cabinet sucks up the fumes and lead them outside through a ventilation tube.
Maybe i can build the flowhood and the flowcabinet at the same time.

It worked for the most part.  I have some issues with higher pressure on the outside still, but I managed to alleviate some of that "dead spot" in the center and get the airflow through the middle up substantially.

I'm still trying to fine-tune it to actually being perfectly laminar, but it's been an interesting process.

I'm adding some vertical fins today (just small 3" wide particle board strips) inside to divert some of the air towards the middle of the plenum.

Because right now I'm clocking over 1m/s on the edges, and just around .6 m/s (probably between .4 / .5 m/s) in the middle.
