Tamping down the sides and middle and proper surface conditions will stop the side and bottom pins. This Tek is meant to be set and forget like most teks. Correct field capacity will not need any watering till after the first flush at least. Follow her Tek and you'll have no problems.

Just want to chime in and give a recommendation, as well as a huge thanks to Shaperdreaming.

This was my first 'tub' style grow, as had only done PF cakes once until now. The results have been rather spectacular as far as I can tell.

I grew four shoeboxes, and in my first flush yielded over 80g dried. Second flush is averaging about 10g dried per box, so I should have perhaps 120g (nearly 4 oz) after the second flush is done for all four boxes.

Compared to PF Tek, where I yielded about 10g (dried) from 5 cakes (3 cakes didn't yield anything), this has been amazing. None of my shoeboxes failed or contam'd, but if they had it would've been a small loss. This approach brought me the encapsulation benefits of PF Tek with the output of small monotub.

Many many many thanks Shaper. So nice to have half a year's supply of microdosing after just half a set of shoeboxes!

The one change I've made is that I open the boxes a day or two after I see pinning to fan them out. I got lots of "fuzzy feet" on my first flush from the lack of Fresh Air Exchange (FAE). Still, wonderful TEK!

Ok here’s my question, can I use spawn bags or buy pre sterilized jars then start at step two?

Has anyone tried this tek with those Sterilite 6qt with the white lids?  They're quite a bit less expensive.

I know Shaper likes the latching lid style, but those 6qt white lid ones that go for a buck are the quintessential Shoebox. Whenever someone mentions a shoebox here, that's the one they mean.

I'm wondering if this tek will work for PESA shrooms? Everywhere I read it says that PE needs a lot of water. This tek would be awesome for PE strains because they take much longer (I'm very patient so no rush) and setting and forgetting PE shoeboxes would be wonderful.

Also what strain do you use and how many different strains have you used for this tek?

It'll work for any cube. If you're running something that likes allot of water, just make the coir wetter. I run my PE at field capacity. It'll definitely be good for PESA. Just wanting to make sure you know PESA isn't in the PE family.

Decided to get into this world on Christmas while ending a 40 day water fast.  After I made some common mistakes like compulsively buying a kit and other things I found this forum. While waiting on amazon and spores to germ I found this tek.  I was so excited to try this.  Last night I did 12 shoe boxes and 1 13 quart box (shoebox X2).  The tek is super simple and easy to follow, was very easy to scale it to just do whatever jars I had colonized.  I'm very excited to see the results, thanks again for this.
I tried to upload a picture but it says its too big... Oh well. It looks cool i promise!

I think that's what I used. I've successfully done 10 of these shoeboxes with like 6 or 7 flushes each, they just don't seem to stop. I have several ounces dried and packed from the past few months of this tek.

They're starting to contaminate so it's time to rotate them out. They would probably give a couple more runs if the coir wasn't turning green lol. I'm actually surprised it lasted this long.

This simple tek is impressive in how much it produces. Thanks!!

I cannot thank you enough for this write up! Seriously.

I prepared 4 shoe boxes exactly as you instructed, and the results are  spectacular despite one blunder. For me, it seemed I couldn't get those nice little water droplets to develop, and I got into a repeated cycle of misting because I can't see droplets then increasing FAE too much because things got too wet.  Which of course led to a matted surface. Turns out, those droplets are really tiny. When I checked one tub I hadn't messed with, sure enough, I had exactly the surface conditions you describe IF I looked at it with a 5x magnifying glass. The droplets were there. I just didn't see them without magnification.

Once I got that figured out, everything came together perfectly. I was able to save the 2 boxes I'd matted, and the rest of them performed beautifully with no intervention at all. I have to admit I have a tendency to fuss with things too much. In the end, I just let the boxes do their own thing and was rewarded with a great first flush.

I can't find Sterilite where I live. Closest thing I can find that comes close is a 5 litre box that is 25 x 15 x 9 cm inside. It's 75% of the height of a Sterilite and the bottom inside surface area is 77% of a sterilite.

Should I decrease the substrate amount, or is the right amount not so important?

I'm also a bit confused about myco-pints and myco-quarts. Are you talking about the jar size, or the amount of spawn substrate?
