Cops at the door, can I not answer?
    #2604165 - 04/26/04 10:19 AM (20 years, 27 days ago)

I was reading the post "Help, arrested and facing 3 felonies" and wondering to myself, if the cops show up can I just not open the door? What will they do if I don't?

Unless they were called for a domestic disturbance, you don't have to answer the door.
Edit - They usually get pretty pissed when you don't though, especially when they know your in there.

This weekend the cops came for a noise complaint, we didnt answer the door, eventually they got the apartment manager to open the door.

They didn't pass out any MIC's although they could have, just kicked everyone out. I don't know if they didnt bust us because we didnt seem drunk, or because it wouldnt hold up in court since we didnt let them in.

When they opened the door did you say "Get the fuck out of my apartment unless you have a warrent?".

But yeah....it's usually best to open the door, step outside, and close the door behind you.

If John Waters, Stanley Kubrick, and Tim Burton all got in a fight I think Waters would beat up Kubrick but mostly because he is already dead and Burton would probably just masturbate watching the whole spooky ordeal. Then a Lobster would have relations with all of them.

Perhaps someone from the American-based Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (Leap) group. Read about it here http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...;o=&fpart=1

Some police are the enemies. Some are doing their job to make the world safer in their eyes. Other (many in my opinion) are on extended ego/power trips and just enjoy catching people doing something illegal. Those are two VERY different things.

So people who follow orders and deprive non-violent people of their freedom and sometimes their lives have no responsibility for their actions? Have you ever hear of the "Nuremberg Defense"? The Nuremberg Defense is an argument in which someone who has done something wrong, claims he/she was "only following orders" from a higher authority and therefore shares no culpability for his/her actions.

To call humans 'rational beings' does injustice to the term, 'rational.'  Humans are capable of rational thought, but it is not their essence.  Humans are animals, beasts with complex brains.  Humans, more often than not, utilize their cerebrum to rationalize what their primal instincts, their preconceived notions, and their emotional desires have presented as goals - humans are rationalizing beings.

I agree with you.

All day the cops have to deal with the worst of society. I think that it sours their outlook on everyone. If all you saw all day was murderers, theives, rapists, or other generally foul assholes, you might become a dick head also.

That said, they still hav ean obligation to try to overcome those feelings, and understand that theirs is a duty to serve first and formost.
