Bird of the day!

well, for all you fellow ornithologists in the house and birdnerds alike, raise your hands in the air! For those of you that don't give a shit, get ready! From now on everyday I'm going to post a picture/little bio on a different bird of North America in this thread so you can become bird lovers just like me! I developed a love and interest in birding when i was a young kid, constantly putting out birdseed in our house in the woods, noticing, and drawing birds. Just a few years ago i went on a wilderness course where i kept a bird journal on the many different birds i observed. I want to share my love with birds with you guys! We're going to start with the american avocet. Name: American Avocet Features: As you see in the pic! Upturned bill, thin long legs, very cute Call: High pitched, cute weeee weeeee very distinct. Where to find: American Avocets commonly are found on mudflats, in saline lakes, in fresh water and saltwater marshes and on coastal bays. Also in the great basin desert area (I saw them in teh great basin desert, up in the utah/wyoming area on some lakes/mudflats) Cool Fact: The male helps incubate the egg more than the female for the first 8 days!

It looks like you could snap off their beaks like a toothpick
If so, I want one. That'd be one rare toothpick. Maybe I could even start a business that sells bird beaks to rich people
The only thing good about birds is eating them, same with mushrooms

Lapwing Vanellus vanellus
Lapwings are easily identified wading birds, medium sized, black and white with white faces and a long upright crest. In flight, the floppy, rounded black and white wings make them unmistakable.
Call: pee-wit (that's why the lapwing is called a Kievit in Holland.)
A Dutch tradition is to find the first lapwing egg. The finder of the first egg receives a silver lapwing from the official representative of the queen. It's so "important" in Holland that it is shown on the nationwide news.
