off-grid GH humidity issues

hey, there.  not sure if this is the proper spot for this but here goes...

so, Im not really off the grid by any means but the crap electrical at my house has prevented me from running an ultrasonic in my GH.  its a 12'x10'x8' pvc hoop.  I bought some "mist" type drip emitters but the flow was much to high.  short of me hand misting it with a pump sprayer 4 times a day I was curious if anyone had any bright Ideas for a no power humidification system?

yes, and I appreciate your feedback.  its just that I had already ruled out that option for those reasons.  also I did try this early on and it only sorta works on hot days when the sun is directly on the GH
but walking in there with the mosquitos as bad as they were was unbearable

You could possibly use 12v with a large water tank and swamp cooler setup. There again you need air movement for evaporation.

hmm...  that might be an option. with some harbor freight solar panels to go with:facepalm3:.  air movement isn't an issue as it gets lots thru the side flaps when it gusts.

I don't know how crap your electrical is to not run an ultrasonic. Will a pressure washer run on your electrical outlets? I built a high-pressure mist from a pressure washer link is in my signature. My pressure washer only runs about 20 secs every 15 minutes to get my 10' x 4' x 7' (LWH) room to 97% humidity.

it makes no sense to me either.  if I plug a chord in it trips the gfi and the breaker even with no load!? I just installed a new breaker too. but If I pop the breaker then the septic pump goes out and that's baad umkay...  I got a badass hose-head mister today but its still leg work.  I may try the battery idea

I live off grid. I have a 12x8x7 fruiting chamber inside a greenhouse. I put plastic down such that water drains to the outside of the greenhouse then put about 6 “s of pee gravel...  3/8 round rock down. One exterior wall has 2 layers of hardware cloth/heavy duty screen about three feet high with a 4 inch gap. The gap is filled with cinder rock, but could be more pee gravel. I water the floor and wall really well once a day. Also have a small 12 volt fan that blows on the rock. It’s been working fine for oysters and lion’s mane. It wasnt cheap but wasn’t terribly expensive. I got the screen for free. But honestly I think the wet rocks on the ground really does it.  Seemed to work well for RR.

Gfi tripping just means there is current on the ground. There is a faulty cord or something shorting. Possibly very little voltage involved.

Wait , it pops gfi and breaker with no load? So you've tried tge cord elsewhere?

the problem has persisted across multiple chords and different outlets. also when I plug the ultrasonic in the chord gets really hot before it flips everything.  Im no electrician but the main coming into the box  is unthreaded and split into 2 braids an then re-braided back together after some snaking around through other wires.  pretty sure it should not do that.  anyhow, thanks for all the good Ideas! its a very un-permanent GH. Im currently renting but I doubt the landlords would care if I dump some gravel in back.  they didn't mind the truckloads of woodchips:wink:

I live off grid too can’t run a humidifier. Do you have catchment or waterhook up? I spray down my GH every morning and evening with the hose and there is plenty of humidity for oysters and lions mane all day and night. And the constant washing of the room keeps it clean, I’ve been doing this for months. Also if you get any gnats just spray them outa the air works for me. Hope this helps. Keep it simple!

Ultrasonic pond foggers run on an AC to DC adapter, which means you could theoretically run them from rechargeable batteries.

I am not nearly electrician enough to figure out how to make that work, but that should be possible.  :smile:

If it is working I would buy a water solenoid valve and hook it up to a timer then you won't have to worry about it...

The solenoid should use less than a 1/2 amp. If the solenoid kicks the breaker forget about growing mushrooms and use the money to move out of that house!! If you can run a 60-watt incandescent bulb without kicking the breaker the solenoid should work.

I just read this post again. I bet you are using an 18 gauge cord get a more heavy duty cord so the electrons flow easier. Keep the receipt you can always take it back.

thats just one chord. I've burnt out like 4 already:facepalm3:
had to replace an outlet as well cause it fried one that didn't have a GFI
