How I understand it is, the Creator (God) created the Universe as a need, unavoidable, necessary. Is there one reason for existence? Not sure, but I would argue that experiencing physical life and psychic-life thru dreams and psychedelics is part of the reason for existence. Its all about the experiences and what they add up to in the end.

Its the Will of the Creator to have souls experience the reality that was created. It may seem like a simulation, and perhaps it is. But its the most elaborate reality down to the atomic scale of atoms and quasars. A true Mystery, but a wonderful one (in my opinion).

@ OP - You're not alone in this trail of thinking, a lot of us have been there before!

My personal advice would be to start really opening your eyes and paying attention to the beauty in life. We're surrounded with it but sometimes you have to slow down to see it. Sure there's a lot of hell-on-earth stuff, but go to the light.

Don't get too caught up in dmt and other psychedelics - it will just take you further into the illusion.

Psychedelics are particularly good at forcing the user to confront the deeper questions that nag at your mind and soul. My personal philosophy is if human life lacks intrinsic meaning- so what!??  In that case, superstar or complete fuck-up, when you're dead you won't give a shit, and in the incredibly short span of 50 years no one who ever knew you or could remember you will be dead, too, so who gives a shit.

Now, to be clear, as a Buddhist, I DO NOT think that our human life is anything but a precious opportunity to grow spiritually, collect merit thru virtuous thoughts and deeds, and move on to a fortunate rebirth when this one ends.  However, one potential way out of  a transient existential crisis is to just say fuck it, it doesn't matter until things normalize and you can go back to a more mainstream and less severe viewpoint.

Always remember ... It's all in your mind anyway.

as already mentioned before, have fun. don't sweat about things like meanings and destinies. you might as well ask why people create new works of art. sure, art is a form of communication, conveying things like your view of the world or thoughts on a subject... but when you get right down to it, an artist creates for the heck of it. it's just an urge to do so for the sake of doing so.

life's meaning is whatever you decide to create of it. it's all about having fun. if you aren't having fun with your life, you're doing something wrong - maybe you're stuck in a deadbeat job and making excuses for why you can't pursue the career you choose. (hint: they're excuses. stop that and start finding ways to do what you love. get creative.) maybe you're in a relationship that's weighing you down and need to end it. maybe you're worried about things you can't really do anything about. let it go and focus on the things you CAN change.

there's no need for things to have a reason. sometimes, things have meaning just by existing. sometimes, just creating and bringing new ideas to life is meaning enough.

remember, you too are divine. you don't need a higher being to tell you how to live your life. you don't need portents to guide your spiritual development. YOU are divine. you don't need some holy man to tell you how to live your life.

There is no inner and outer, no you and the universe, the entire universe is inside of you just as you're inside of it. The present, past, and future are all wrapped up as one in the fixed 4 dimensional block of space-time, according to the most accepted physics theory.

Seeking answers externally just doesn't work when you already possess all the answers there are. You're made out of them. Our perceptions and filters in the brain create the illusion that shields us from reality. The brain itself, only a metaphor. Finding existential truth is a process of forgetting, not of learning.

You ate the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge, and got kicked out of the eden that is ingnorant bliss. The fun part is figuring out what to do next, and it may end up being a lifelong endeavor.

The meaning of life is whatever you want it to be. Nothing has intrinsic meaning, we humans assign meaning to things as we see fit for all kinds of reasons and purposes. So whatever rocks your boat buddy.

:wave: Welcome back Inflaton, been awhile

I once had a vivid dream where everything made sense and felt 100% real. Then I woke up, and realized there was more at work in reality than just what I was capable of understanding in dream land. At every turn my sleeping brain was filling in the gaps to create a reality that made sense, not far off from what an awake brain does, so it was 100% real at the time and if someone in the dream told me it wasn't I'd think they were crazy. Alas, it was only a dream.

Not saying real life is a dream we wake up from, but I am saying that just because we're convinced we collectively 'know' things, doesn't actually mean anything at all. We may simply lack the biological hardware to sense, process, and/or comprehend other possibilities, as is the case with many animals, insects, and even humans with varying degrees of sensory ability.

Materialism and atheism is just as faith-based as any religion. Just one of many ways we comfort ourselves by pretending we have some sort of clue.

Thinker types, including myself, can get ourselves into a hole. We overthink everything and get ourselves down. You will come around the circle and find out that you have to make life what you want it to be. It's one big dream, really... one with actual consequences.
