That wouldn't make sense, the sclerotia are to get the organism through bad conditions...so it can fruit (reproduce) when the conditions are optimal.

While that is true fungi work as a network, so while some genetics can form stones and be a reservoir in times of stress, isolating from those genetics could in theory produce non fruiting strains.

Its like the genetics that is good at forming stones works in concert with fruiting genetics

That's kinda what I've gathered about sclerotia but I'm no expert just reading between the lines in things I've read over the years. That's why I also transferred fluffy myc and a stone. I wanted to test this. I also think it's possible that a mixture of fruiting genetics and stone genetics would fruit better than a monoculture of either.

I did this from my spore plate, the stone has many more stones in its growth in the t1 plate than the whisky growth I took, I’ll have to check tomorrow and snap a pic

Well, I suppose if we knew everything we wouldn't be bothering with this collective expiriment, would we? I havent yet read the link but from a biological point of view, I don't see anatomically why stones alloeed to propogate and further produce new myc wouldnt produce fruit bodies. After all they come from the myc itself. Further expirimentation needed though.

On a different note I've been dragging my feet getting spores to agar (have had my irons in all sorts of different fires lately). They'll go down this week. I'll post updates with my progress.

Took a transfer today right from where I swabbed the germ plate. It doesnt really show up in the pics but it was very blue. So itll be interesting to see what happens:shrug:

My advice is to go for everything...take some 'clean' looking myc to some plates, blue stuff to others. Anything that might be a stone to some as well.

I'll admit, I am only interested in fruiting whenever I grow cincts, but this is fun to see everyone experimenting with the stones. I'm prepared to learn a lot from you guys.

Collectively we will learn so much in a short period of time. Exciting times we live in! Lol

Just a brief update for anyone who is interested. The batch using the substrate formula I cited above is going swimmingly. Moved to bulk 4 days ago and it is just RIPPING through the substrate. Will likely case with about 1/2 inch of coco coir and vermiculite on about day 7-10 and move to fruiting conditions. Sorry pic is through the plastic so this is as clean as its gonna get. Will post another just before casing. For now, Looks happy and healthy :smile:

Out of curiosity where did you acquire the horse manure, I've been having issues finding a source for that. That being said this goes for anyone to answer, do you all think the manure bulks that are premade by some of the shroomery vendors would be effective in getting fruits?

Also update, cinct spores went to agar today, will update with pics when growth shows.

I get it for free at the local horse stables. Just have to dry it and 'powder' it.

Mycosupply has dried, powdered horse poo for $1/LB. Because of the way they process it, they say it is basically equivalent to 10 LBs for every LB of this stuff that you use, thus why mine only used 10% of the volume of poo... That's what they recommend. I had access to a stable though and many hundreds of pounds of manure, but for $10 for the equivalent of 100lbs of manure it seemed easier as Im still waiting for a pile to dry out enough due to rain. Now it is just in a shoebox box with two sized gallon sacks that'll last a long time.

Note that shipping is kinda pricy, but still for about $35 altogether including shipping you get the equivalent of 100 lbs of manure if you order 10LBs. I figure the time to track down, shovel, dry, and process fresh horse poo would be worth more than that, at least how I value my time. You'd have to make that calculation for yourself.

If you want it cheap/free go to craigslist and look for ads or post one of your own in the "looking for" section. I've found people are more than happy to get rid of their extra horse shit, usually free. Or just order some of the above and save time/hassle. Either way.

If you are from a city, they usually have a police force with horses.  Or a park that is surveilled by rangers on horses.  Even cops need to get rid if the poo.  Just act like you want it for your garden.
