Good to know. Ive been watching them pretty closely and saw the powdery stuff doesn't necessarily only show up where it was inoculated. I had some of the regular growth get powdery at it's edge so I was feeling pretty pretty good it wasn't a contam. Then I saw the stones and knew I was good. I'm gonna transfer my largest stone and my fastest growth and go from there

Checking back in again.

  Hunting has continued, and I thought I was going to come back with good news of a wild-caught northern cinctulus.  However, bioassay with 2.3 dried grams came back negative.  I suspect I had a variant of the Paneolus papilionaceus group, instead, based on the black spore print and other very cinctulus-like characteristics.  Shame, there were a lot of them, and I printed them all.

  The specimen from the horse stables is taking off now.  I have spore germination on a plate, and putting the substrate from below the mushroom into a jar of sterilized substrate has been pretty successful.  I have a fine white mycelium colonizing the jar, and it just might be getting denser in places.  Wish me luck, maybe I get "wild stones" from this one!

  And then the Warren print arrived and was put to two agar "plates" a day or two ago.  No growth on those yet.

Edit:  I plan to the trade for the Warrens for Subfinder and 1WithU, but I'm a stuck on that point for the time being.  It seems there are areas of the Shroomery where low-post count novices cannot go, and trade rating pages are among them.  So I will wait.  And then I will rate.  :smile:

The spores germinated within 4 days (7-7-19) and sclerotia formed almost immediately; only 2 days after.

4 day spore germination
2 day sclerotia formation
total: 6 days

Yesterday I had only saw one stone and today the entire mycelial mat is practically blue.
Pics Soon. (Couldnt grab a pic of the white mycelium thinking the stones would take longer)

Ok so after I took the lids off and cleared some of the condensation I can see that the mycelium almost seems to grow under the surface of the agar around the edges. If you hold it so that a glare is on the surface it's smooth around the edges meaning it doesn't have that rough look(kinda like scratches) you usually see with mycelium. Are others experiencing this as well or do I likely have a contam plaguing most my plates?

pretty sure mycelium always grows into the agar. leading edge can be above or below the surface. i don't think it's something to worry about.

none of my plates are showing stones, tho. i'm jelly.

I've seen other myc do that but to a MUCH lesser degree. The part of the edge that looks under the surface is pretty wide/thick. I'd say close to half of the area colonized is like this versus a thin ring. We'll see how it goes. I just transferred my biggest stone as well as a few different areas to compare the subtle differences of the myc and see which looks most promising.
I want to add that while these colonize fine at around 75°F-78°F they seem to really take off in 80°F-85°F

So I have multiple plans:  Colonized grain to outside totes of pasturized straw and horse manure, colonized grain to compost pile,  colonized grain to straw , coir and horse manure pasturized and another sterilized in a grow bag with and without a pinch of coffee.  Colonized rye no pearls yet. I will also use as a grain master and to make L/C for serial inoculations of outside straw/poo.

Hello friends!  How exciting to see many of you now showing blue stones forming either in dishes or in jars!  Now this project is certainly well underway.  It's just a mater of patience for the stones to mature enough for us to evaluate their properties.  It appears that many of us will be ready to harvest around the same times soon.  At this point it seems that in September we shall have a handful of initial reports.

As for my jar of cinct, well, I asked my wife to send me a pic.  It's not a great shot and it is hard for me to see what is going on from her shot.  I didn't feel like asking her to make a better shot, as, well, let's just say that I am happy I could convince her to humor me to take it in the first place.  When I get back I will look with my own eyes and make a better pic myself.  I believe I can see little white stones and perhaps hints of bluish areas in this & another pic she sent a day before.  I can't assert any other information than what you can see here for yourself.

Current results (compared to P. Cubensis and P. Galindoi which were dropped on agar at the same time):







Upon cutting during agar transfer, I noticed a bit of a crunchy feeling with P. Cinctulus. As if its mycelium had a thin, but noticeable denser outer layer, i.e. crust. I also noticed later that I cut one piece of agar right through a tiny stone (see picture below). :grin:



Regarding the next step, all three species will be transfered to rice. The process ends here for P. Galindoi. As for P. Cubensis, I plan to do some invitro experiments, so I still need to see whether I'm going to include straw in my experiments or use just rice. As for P. Cinctulus, colonized rice will be transfered to some combination of straw and manure. For now, I'm more focused on stones and will experiment with fruits later on.

Thanks brother that further eases my mind about it. I feel like my bears tooth acted similar in that sense(a good bit grows beneath the surface) but that myc spreads like roots/lightning so it didn't make a good comparison. Damn submarine myc lol. How did your hoogs turn out? That's one I've really been wanting to try
