Beautiful Inocybe sp. Could this be active?
    #26031531 - 06/04/19 01:21 AM (4 years, 10 months ago)

Found in native bush NZ. Substrate it was growing from is soil I think.

Pileus 2 cm diameter and dark brown.

Stipe 4 cm diameter. The base appeared to changed colour at first from green to more of a bluish green quite quickly.

If anyone can id the species it would be appreciated.

It is an Inocybe species, possibly I. calamistratoides.
It is highly toxic, do not consume. I don't believe there are any
active Inocybe species found growing in New Zealand.

Here are three finds of that species on mushroomobserver.org for comparison:

Yes Anglerfish it does look very much like that. Thanks for your help. There seems to be quite a few Inocybe species around here but that is the first one I have found that looked like a possible active. Gosh I hope there is one to be discovered in NZ.

Thanks chipsandwich it was a little bit exciting there for a moment

Yes, it is more or less identical to the I. calamistrata found in Europe.
Did you smell it? Supposed to smell "fishy" or slightly acidic.

When I picked it, it had a faintly sweet smell. I just crushed the stems and it does smell somewhat fishy. A fresh smell though and not unpleasant at all. Like being at the beach lol

Inocybe calamistratoides also possibly contains psilocybin.

Do you still have it? I'll send you a psilocybin test kit if you do. Would be interesting if a toxic mushroom also contained
Psilocybin

Hi chipsandwich, I would be keen to do this. I have two caps which I have spore printed. I'll message you.

As far as I can tell from some limited research none of the psilocybin containing Inocybe species also contain muscarine.

I don't believe the species in this thread contains psilocybin.

An update to say I did test the Inocybe calamistratoides (?) for psilocybin and the result was negative. Although the mushrooms that I thought I had dried were mouldy and the test kit I bought from Gizmos looked el cheapo.

Can anyone tell me a reliable place where I can buy Psilocybin test kits from?
