First grow diary
    #26026633 -

Heya. After a failed attempt at growing from a grow-box (yeah yeah...) and a valid suggestion from one of the members here to "grow balls and do it properly", I've decided to fully (as much as I can) commit to it. This is my little diary if you don't mind.

For the first one I went with the classics - BRF Tek + SGFC (people here say it's outdated but it seems fine to me, at least for now).

I've knocked my jars (5 in total) on 26th May (6 days ago) with a B+ purchased from a sponsor here. Used ~1.5-2cc per jar (turns out it's pretty hard to precisely inject 1cc as per recommendation especially with shaky hands..). Didn't use a SAB and opted for a regular pot instead of PC (solid 2h treatment though). Ground my own BRF (was worried it was too chunky, but by the looks of it it's fine). The jars aren't perfect unfortunately, but the best I could find without paying a ton for the fancy ones that come in like a dozen (maybe should've). They are sliiiightly narrower in the neck, so I might have to break them before fruiting which I realised too late...*sigh* Or maybe it's going to be fine (I guess it's not ok to try and squeeze it out of the jar too harshly?

ATM (after 6 days) I can't see anything happening in there. Trying to be patient and understand it can take up to a few weeks to germinate. The ambient temperature is around 23C (74F) on avg right now and the jars are kept in a dark cabinet (the only decent place I could allocate).

Just received a bag of Perlit (gosh this thing's dusty af), so as soon as there's a sign of life in those jars, I'll start preparing the SGFC.

About it for now, thanks for your attention!

Don't really need one if you're using needles and pf cakes

You'll have to break the jar or break up the cake sadly. But pf to bulk can be a very good thing.

Will look into it, thanks

As a little update - 9 days in and not a slightest hint of myc. Don't even know what yo think. I can see some condensation in the bottom of all jars. My field capacity was spot on I think and I've spread 8cc between 5 jars injecting it onto the glass. 🙄

Just keep letting it do it's thing.

Stop handling them, you might disturbed the verm layer and unintentionally get contam down to your grow.

Set somewhere and come back in a couple weeks to check on them. It really is a waiting game.

Good luck!!!

Thanks for all the replies and tips guys, much appreciated. Today marks 2 weeks on the dot since I've started and I'm super happy to report that I just noticed first signs of myc in one of the jars. Just a tiny little bit but damn it's motivational. I also inoculated 3 more jars (used better glass this time around) as was worried none from the first batch will live. Used 2cc per jar this time. Excited to see what comes next!

So, dear diary, things aren't going too well haha. Out of 9 jars in total, only one is sort of alive. Not sure what to blame (probably my sterilisation techniques, although I did my best). That one jar is growing super slowly. Like, it's been 3+ weeks now and it's a size of a bottle cap. It doesn't help that only 1 of four injections made it by the looks of it.

Just wondering If I could (should?) try inoculatibg it again (opposite holes)? Or is it risky? Saw someone recommending turning it upsidedown and banging slighly to redistribute the spores (?). Sounds a bit crazy, or..?

I've got myself PC last week, new jars and other bits and bobs along with a new syringe from a different vendor, so I'm not easily dissuaded, just want to try and help this survivor.

Dear diary,

Got a few more syringes from a different vendor, GT this time - these guys are amazing, even sent me a 3cc B+ as a gift too, without me mentioning Shroomery.org or anything.

Also got new proper jars, a PC and 2.5kg of organic rye. Over the course of few days managed to inoculate 15 jars in total (6 BRF, the rest are grain). Not holding my breath for the grain as I know chances of contams when doing it ms-style are very high. But yolo I guess.

To my surprise the first batch of BRFs is already showing signs of mycelium, after merely 4 days! Both GT and B+. Along the way I injected some more spores into the OG jar that is still going (slowly, but going). That didn't work as well. Makes me think what's wrong with that substrate.. Anyway, I'm pretty hyped!

Guys, all of my jars inoculated successfully - both BRF and rye. B+ and GT via MK. But the grain ones (23/06) have a very fuzzy mycelium which today started creating these little knots almost like hyphal knots. My lids (in case it's important) have a ship amd a 7mm FAE hole with 2 layers of MT. Also theres a layer of Myvek paper under each lid. Is this something to worry about? Should I shake it (it's very clustered atm).
