Australian Cubensis ID

Hey Everyone, I live in Australia in central Victoria and it's currently mushroom season.

With perfect conditions I went out on a hunt this morning I'm pretty sure I've tracked down what I'm looking for.

Really just need some second opinions. I found this collection in a very mushroom fertile area with loads of other different varieties, including Amanita Muscaria.

The suspects I found were growing under eucalypt trees in a damp garden area with loads of wood chips.

Initially the smaller ones weren't obvious until I picked them. Once I got them home they had gone the tell tail mouldy blue colour.

I'm currently taking spore prints and will chuck them in the dryer and save them until I am ready to take them.


Any help would be greatly appreciated Cheers!

Do cubes bruise on the gills? I havent heard

I image they would as the tops and stems bruise blue. The blue is an indication of the psylocibin acid present in the shrooms. I'm wondering if any poisonous varieties bruise blue also, as this would throw a spanner in the works as far as ID goes.

Im not %100 percent certain but i believe i heard somewhere there are a couple other can bruise. Not necessarily poisonous but its also not considered to be a positive ID trait for psilocybin

Post in the mushroom.identification forum.

Don't eat anything that doesn't bruise blue or develope blueish tinges to it

The ones youre looking for in vic are not cubensis, they're called Psilocybe Subaeruginosa , and they are potent as fuck. Google them.

Remember dont pick anything with a brown stem as well.

They look like subs but get the mushroom identifier guys to look at it properly in that forum

Hey Thanks,
Ill take your advice and post in the mushroom forum.

They all bruised blue like a mofo so I'm fairly confident. I get confused with the names I googled Subaeruginosa I'll be careful I think.

This isn't factually correct, the bruising isn't due to psilocybin or psilocin.
There are boletes that bruise blue and they arent active.

After a while you can spot them a mile away, even recognise them by their smell. There's a shroom that looks similar with a BROWN STEM, which is poisonous, so be careful not to pick anything with brown stems!
