Anyone ever lucid dreamed? I have for my entire life. I still do today, though not as often these days. I thought everyone did when I was growing up, but when I asked other people about it nobody seemed to have any idea what I was talking about.

I realized that it was not as common as I had assumed it did. I always wondered why it happened to me so much more often then most other people I asked about it.

One possible explanations is a certain level of self awareness.

I’ve seen this theory before and it makes a lot of sense anecdotally because I have practiced meditation my entire life. So I wonder if that brought me a higher level of selfie awareness that contributed to the lucid dreaming.

There is also that I used to have night terrors when I was a child. That was when I first learned how to wake myself up from a nightmare. It would happen all the time. The most terrifying dreams. I used to dread going to bed a night. Isn’t it interesting how everything feels so much more pronounced in your youth?

I remember being woken up in the middle of the night once and my mother told me I was having a bad dream. I asked her how she knew that and she said I was screaming in my sleep. I still remember that exact dream to this day. It’s funny how memory works.

Later in life I had a conversation about it with someone who told me that learning to wake yourself up was the first stage of lucid dreaming or the beginning of it. That made perfect sense to me from my memories of it.

I never actually met the person who told me that but I was grateful for the explanation because I had met so few other people who had direct experience with it, and no one who had that explanation.

I wish I could go back and ask her how she knew that. I do remember my mother explaining to me that it was possible to wake yourself up from your dreams. I never got a full explanation on it though.

I guess I like to see it as though I were in the movie the shining. That sort of explanatory conversation they had about “shining”. I thought that was one of Jack Nicholson‘s better parts.

Here's a good one:

Some family members have deeply disappointed me recently. *sigh* Why do I have to deal with this shit? Anyone else have holiday drama they're dealing with?
