Does Power always corrupt?

Or can a person retain their compassion and humanity even with Power?
Does having Power over someone or something always lead to the dark side of psychology?

I don't think there's any rule in regards to human behaviour which doesn't have exceptions.
It may also depend on the quantity of power received. More power = greater likelihood of corruption.
-------------------- Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

Yeah, that was my understanding too. The level of Power makee it more likely to corruption of morals/ethics.

I think one needs to consider the fact that the type of person who seeks and gains a position of power is usually a total bastard to begin with. Most politicians, for example, were already egotistical assholes before they were ever elected. Such positions are tailor-made for the kind of person who will slit throats and break backs, if you will, to get to the top.

most likely specially for the egotistic majority without a good mindset. When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan.Proverbs 29:2
I have a power over that flower to care for it, but i dont consider owning it.

I think that people who don't get much corrupted by power look like weak leaders; Jimmy Carter being a prime example.

Good point. Theres almost a stigma to not looking/acting corrupted. Like what the hell, why aren't you corrupted like us?
Its interesting to look at a guy like Bill Gates, very powerful in terms of money and influence on his big business, but overall a calm, chill dude with some interesting in philanthropy, which I respect.
Same goes for Presidents, most have a sense of Power and Authority that can lead to corruption/abuse of power. But a few like Jimmy Carter and JFK are different.

an unexamined life is not worth living. corrupt power is a symptom of unexamined life: consider Trump's endless rant against the press which examines him.

With low frequency people it always does. From my experience, Preachers and cops are the worse when it comes to power.

A corrupted individual is simply a person who is never satisfied and deeply insecure.

I think most of us are corrupt to begin with, yet with little power our corruption can only go so far. So Iβd say itβs not power that corrupts, but that power magnifies the effects of a corrupt person who lacks integrity.

Damn, that's great. Makes a lot of sense. Its like with Power, you have more choices on what to corrupt, similar to how someone has more money, they have more choices on what to use it for.
Great stuff

Sometimes I forget there are people/animals in the world who don't care about my life at all. That's pretty hardcore, man.
How are so much of us still alive?

At that point, lack of experience/knowledge will be the downfall. But if they have both knowledge/intelligence and innocence, now that would be something.

By that case we adults should become as little innocent children again.
