I literally JUST inoculated it so no growth Beer has done me well in making agar culture media (or just "agar" as a normal person calls it) so I figure *fingers crossed* it should do well.
Man I like those lids. They look so official. I take it you cook the beer or something to get rid or the alcohol or is it watered down enough that the alcohol is a none issue?

That lid is probably 6 years old. I may never use the SHIP on it again, but its there anyway.
All I did was warm it a bit to evaporate some alcohol off. I dont think I have to tho because I've been making agar like this without cooking out alcohol for months for germ plates and transfers and I've had good experiences so far. Germination is quick and growth looks great. Got a 6er of Mickeys thats lasted through at least 300 plates... still have 3 full beers and a partial too.
I used all my malt extract to make chocolate malts. No regrets.
I've got a writeup in my journal but I need to flesh it out more.
EDIT: I've been making agar with 8% beer 8 grams of agar and the rest water, but with the LC I've attempted I used less (5%)

How much beer do you add % wise? I have some skunky beer I've never thrown away in my fridge
Does this just replace your LME, or do you also use that? I want a beer recipe because I like beer!

So, 1 gram into 250 cc's is .4% if my math is correct. you really only use 0.4 percent nutes in your lc mushboy?

Verum, that's accurate. Here's from the OG Josex Poke Recipe:
Quote:
The standard ratio of LME to water is 1g LME for 500ml of water. The broth will come out very clear using that ratio which is nice, but I personally prefer to pack in more nutrition when using LME, so I add 2 grams instead of 1. The broth will be darker but that's not a problem for me. You need to experiment to see which ratio you like.
I've made a few using this little neutes, but I tend to go for more. I do about 2.5g per 200ml now.
EDIT: My reason to up the neuts and getting a stir plate was that it took AGES for shit to grow in that recipe. You can still get very clear LC (like crystal clear) using 2.5g per 200ml, but it takes longer. With 2.5g LME + A splash of Dextrose I can get a fully colonized jar in 4-5 days on a stir plate.

Damn. I use 2% I have 4 LCs in the cooker as we speak. 2 at .4 percent. And 2 at 2%. All done with cold water as per the tek.

Yes. The .4 percent things correct. The last 2 I made we're per his Tek and turned out crystal clear and both have good growth.

Hmm. 4-5 days!? ..... Got to get me a stir plate. I let mine go for a month.

Mine are done in roughly 2 weeks
when I make lcs I inoculate one every few days so they are staggered and once the cycle is up and running colonization speed becomes irrelevant because I always have a broth about to be ready for use.
Stir plate becomes obsolete imo

I mean you could essentially make the same argument for an LC that takes a month...or any myco process that takes a long amount of time
I guess if you don't have a limited fruiting space you could take as long as you wanted for anything.

I'd be sketched to use an lc that took a month finish.

While I can't argue that you're wrong, that doesn't fall in line with what I'm looking to do. I want to go from agar->substrate quickly, LC is a great way to do that. Letting LC sit around until I'm ready just isn't my MO.
You could make this same argument about G2G masters. It's not that you'd be wrong, it's just that's a very narrow type of way of using it, and I want mine more available.
I have no need for 200ml of this shit either. I usually pull about 4-6 10cc syringes of this, then toss the rest and use those syringes within a couple of days. I have like 8 jars of LC sitting around my house in various stages too. If you let it sit too long it starts to grow up the side of your jars too. I had one that was pinning off the side even. It's cute and all, but just not how I want to be using this item

This is a large part of my problem, and why I work at making these things faster. I need to reuse the space.

i think i misspoke. i dont have lcs sitting around for weeks. thats not what i am implying or saying at all.
all im saying is i dont need a stirbar to shave off a few days colonizing. because i made another lc a few days prior and its ready now

i agree. again i think i misspoke or explained myself poorly
