LOL you are totally wasting your time wrapping your threads with plumbers tape. The mason jarrs do not seal on the threads. They seal by pressing the top of the jar against the bottom of the lid where there is typically a gasket. There is absolutely no way you can get a seal on those course threads they are like 5 threads per inch and 1/16 inch tall. If you want to use plastic lids for LC just buy silicone gaskets they work perfectly. Not tattler brand the clear thick silicone gaskets on ebay or amazon. Easy peasy.

No. The lid is just sealing it like it usually does. The plastic lids only leak occasionally.
And even if it does work, that's totally a hillbilly approach because mason jars are just plain not designed to seal that way and there is an easily available way that IS designed to seal it properly.

mason jars are not in the tek I recommend media bottles over jars
Either way unmodded never caused me issues but I've only done a handful of lc runs(with unmodded) so not much experience I guess.

Yea your tek with the media bottle is really well done and will work great if people follow it
Definitely superior to jars. Smaller hole = less chance of contam falling in the open lid when inoculating etc.

Wait, I thought it was plumbers tape on the media bottle threads...

Same thing...they are designed to seal by pressing the top of the jar on the bottom of the lid. The threads only exist to apply pressure on this area, not to make a seal. It is GL-45 threads of you want to google it if you don't trust me. Here is some pictures one of one of my GL-45 caps, this is a 3 piece GL-45 cap you can see it has a o ring that sits on the underside of the metal part that the plastic top presses on to seal it. Not all Gl-45 caps have the o-ring, just this particular type. But they are still designed to make their seal on the underside of the lid like literally every small capped liquid container in existence. Water bottles jugs etc...

Huh... I thought those weird caps (GL-45 or something like that?) were designed specifically to not create a 100% seal even in that case. Damn.
More on topic: I pulled the trigger on a stirplate and got 2 - 250ml media bottles... but I'm cheap and found the cheapest one. The fucking measure lines weren't even level and the damn drip-rim thing wouldn't stay on (you can see a gap in the image)

Returning them today, ordering other ones. I figure that if I'm going to do this I may as well do it right and get the right vessels. 500ml is just a little too big, these will be perfect and I can just PC them with the stir sticks in and trade off on the plate.
I think I'll stick with the cling-wrap over the cap and ignore the plumbers tape.
I also got that cheap ass stir plate, and it works but it's not great at low speeds (stalls out)... still. It works.

Yea that's the common type. These are custom pneumatic lids that must hold pressure.

Get a stir plate, mushboy. I know you like to keep things simple and streamlined, but seriously...they are cheap and the results are worth it.

Does one wait till broth is completely colonized in media bottle to use?
Mine has a nice bit on bottom but towards top has not colonized.
