Sure you can keep reusing it but there's an increased chance that some bacteria could grow on your ports or in the jar from a dirty operation and have time to grow. If you are using it all at once at least it won't all go bad from a single mistake. Just better chances that's all. LC can be a prickly whore when it goes wrong. I personally size my LC jars to have exactly what I need for one "batch" and it all works out good.

I recently had a 75% colonized LC of 400ml, it hadn't really done anything in a while so I decided to unscrew the media bottle 1/4 turn in case I was suffocating it (I have a tendency to keep my unmodded lids a little on the tight side unfortunately due to paranoia). 3 days later I noticed mold around the inner rim It'd been growing out for almost 4 weeks w/o issue and one little 1/4 twist and BAM green.
Yeah, prickly whore is an understatement.

I wouldn't recommend unprotected lids for LC. If you want to use plastic lids for LC, wether modded or un, I would recommend wrapping twice or thrice with cling a para while still in the flow or sab.
Also, an interesting observation is that that same contam would have made it in no matter what was in the jar. That's why I quit using unmodified plastic lids.

That's a solid idea... shame I didn't think of it lol. I'm still very new at making LC, so these mistakes were totally expected. I have such little investment in this it's not funny. I have a jar of PE LC, my first that didn't contam. I've been letting it sit for almost a month now because I don't trust that it won't contam... I should probably pour it lol.

That's been sitting in my cart for like a month now lol. I just need the $$$

@shaper I only use plastic lids and always wrap them. Works like a charm, even for LC that I swirl vigorously (I'm sure it gets up in the threads)

LC can reliably last on the shelf for about a month or two.

I wrap the threads of my jars several times with plumber's tape to form a nice seal with my plastic lids.
