Former minister suspected of smuggling ecstasy pills by the IBA
Former cabinet minister Gonen Segev was arrested on suspicion that he tried to smuggle 25,000 ecstasy pills into Israel from the Netherlands. Segev, a pediatrician, served as minister of energy in Yitzhak Rabin's government in the mid-1990s.
Segev was arrested Wednesday night and the Tel Aviv magistrate's court remanded him Thursday in custody for eight days. A gag order placed on the case two weeks ago was partially lifted by the court.
Tel Aviv police received information two weeks ago of a shipment of drugs due to arrive in Israel from Amsterdam, and they learned that Segev would allegedly be delivering them. He is suspected of using a forged diplomatic passport and refused to be checked at Amsterdam's Schipol Airport.
However, the passport he was using had expired, and had allegedly been changed by a counterfeiter. Segev allegedly left the bag containing the drugs in a lock-up closet at the airport. Two other men, an attorney and his cousin, have also been arrested as suspects in the case.
Police are also investigating suspicions that Segev helped underworld figures operate casinos in Prague for a share of their earnings.
Segev has denied all the charges against him. His attorney, Lior Epstein, said the attorney arrested with him had asked him to take the bag to Israel, saying it contained chocolate. Epstein said when Segev's suspicions were aroused, he locked the bag at Schipol Airport and reported the matter on his own initiative to the police upon arrival at Ben Gurion International Airport.

He should have been smuggling 25,000 hits of acid in a fountain pen.

More should be caught you mean? Implying they do (at least involved on a certain level) but the general public has no clue. Joshua
