I have some Ps Subaeruginosa, best way to get these growing?
    #26015285 -

So, I just picked some fresh Ps Subs in my area and want to get a little patch of my own going somewhere. What's the best way to get them from this fresh (slightly dried) state into having my own little area.

I have an area that has a pine tree right nearby, I understand I need to have some mycelium growth of some kind and have it in some bark chips? There seems to be very little info on wood lovers and how to get them from fresh to a new substrate. Any information or links to info that maybe I missed would be so greatly appreciated.

Thankyou in advance!

I'd do a spore print then to agar to grains to chips. Or clone it if its fresh enough. Then from grains to wood chips. I have never done wood lovers before but seems like the best route I could think of

Probably gonna have to start from spores. Swab the gills and swipe some agar.

You could try cloning it. Take a tissue sample from the interior and put to agar.

Once you have a clean culture, nocc some grains as normal. Use those to inoculate cardboard, then cardboard to woodchips. Woodchips to more woodchips. Then spawn to your bed

There's a nice tek for p. Cyanescens. Should be about the same general idea

Thankyou!
They have been sitting on paper towels for probably 20 hours now, and there doesn't seem to be any spores? Is it possible the drying fan has spread them around or do they take a while to fall?

Also where would one get agar?

Thanks for your help

Thanks heaps for this! Is there a downside to cloning instead of getting spores? I can't seem to see any on the paper towels they're drying on. Swabbing would work? Like a cotton swab through the gills and wipe it on to agar?

Yes.

The downside is that it's likely already gone through a significant amount of cellular division. Old culture is gonna be closer to senescence. It might also be a bitch to clean.

But, the woodlovers live for a long time, they go through a lot of substrate/fruiting in their life span. It'll work fora while at least

Alright, perfect thanks!

Will see if I can find some agar at a local store and do this now

Go to an Asian market they will always have agar. Buy like 3 of them they are usually like 99cents. It  will last you awhile. Also get some potato flakes and honey

Put your caps on a sheet of baking paper or foil ect... and put a small drop of water on the top of each cap. this will stimulate the mushroom into dropping the last of its spores, if there are any left.

Any idea what I could substitute for potato flakes? They don't seem to exist here. Went to 3 different supermarkets

First step is to get in touch with someone that has direct experience with them.

I'd shoot bobwastaken a PM and see if he can't get you pointed in the right direction.

As far as potato flakes go, I was confused about where to find them until I saw that someone posted a picture of a bag of some.  It's just instant mashed potatoes.  If you are in the US you can most likely find Idahoan brand, I use the unflavored.  Got it at walmart for 1$ or so.

Otherwise you can use malt extract (used in home brewing) or grain water or even I've heard of dog food.  I don't have direct links to any of those teks but shouldn't be too hard to find from the searchbar.

Ive heard of using corn syrup also.

Just a random thought, idk if it's actually been done...with the dunglovers, its useful to add manure tea to the agar. Maybe boil some woodchips and use that water

Ohhh, would be so much easier if they called it instant mash haha, I'm not in the US, but thanks so much for the info.

I believe I'm just going with a cardboard set up for now as woodlovers supposedly tend to do pretty well in them.
