Burning sage to sterilize a room? * 1
    #26014398 -

So I just saw literature on a study that showed that burning sage in a room removes 95% of airborne bacteria on one hour. So I'm gonna grab some this week and smoke out my kitchen for an hour before I gwt my SAB ready for some agar work, been having a lot of bacterial problems with my agar transfers lately, this might be a decent solution until I can afford to get my ducts cleaned and add a uvc component to the hvac in my house. Feel free to chime in with any ideas related to this, i will be updating with results later in the week when ive had a chance to implement this

Study more about mushroom cultivation, I mean it might not hurt to burn sage, but I just have to wonder if this is some joke.

I've wondered about this too

I hate spraying lysol

I thought it was more like 99% with sage

Lysol sterilizes surfaces not air, I forgot what the product is that sterilizes air though.

As for everyone else, im not talking about "smudging to rid bad energy", im not a yuppy hipster wook, so the condescension and rudeness are kinda useless and adding nothing to the conversation. My post said nothing about "bad energys", or "spirits", I was speaking purely of Airborne Bacteria. So jokes about crystals and whatnot are kind of irrelevant.

Did the paper say why sage kills bacteria? What in it would get rid of it? Like what was the proof in the article? Why would sage work but not incense? Can u post a link to what u read? It just doesn't sound right to me but I'd be the first to admit I don't know everything so I try to keep an open mind about things.

You really don't need the lysol or anything. With a SAB and good sterile technique you shouldn't have to worry about airborne stuff.

Beside, singing bowls are where it's at.

95% reduction of 107 bacteria is still 5,000,000 bacteria just to get a picture going.

Spraying glycol in the air would work the same or better than sage. But the concentration of bacteria in the air is pretty meaningless to sterile technique. It works regardless of the room air

Found the study on ProQuest, a reputable library site which stores studies, use it for Uni.

Not so much burning, but mixing with contaminated food seems to be the use of it.

I quote the study,

Antimicrobial activities of widely consumed herbal teas, alone or in combination with antibiotics: an in vitro study

"Background

Because of increasing antibiotic resistance, herbal teas are the most popular natural alternatives for the treatment of infectious diseases, and are currently gaining more importance. We examined the antimicrobial activities of 31 herbal teas both alone and in combination with antibiotics or antifungals against some standard and clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Acinetobacter baumannii, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Enterococcus faecalis, methicillin susceptible/resistant Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans.

Methods

The antimicrobial activities of the teas were determined by using the disk diffusion and microbroth dilution methods, and the combination studies were examined by using the microbroth checkerboard and the time killing curve methods.

Results

Rosehip, rosehip bag, pomegranate blossom, thyme, wormwood, mint, echinacea bag, cinnamon, black, and green teas were active against most of the studied microorganisms. In the combination studies, we characterized all the expected effects (synergistic, additive, and antagonistic) between the teas and the antimicrobials. While synergy was observed more frequently between ampicillin, ampicillin-sulbactam, or nystatine, and the various tea combinations, most of the effects between the ciprofloxacin, erythromycin, cefuroxime, or amikacin and various tea combinations, particularly rosehip, rosehip bag, and pomegranate blossom teas, were antagonistic. The results of the time kill curve analyses showed that none of the herbal teas were bactericidal in their usage concentrations; however, in combination with antibiotics they showed some bactericidal effect.

shrooms dont give a fuck about what you think is a good idea.

seriously tho. its like saying, ill rub this rabbits foot and hope for money instead of doing something productive(like a job)

foucs on things that matter. like using a SAB instead of a glovebox. 70% iso not 90, spray water inside SAB not ISO!! and so on..

hard to do that while being distracted by which herb to burn and which cycles of the moon to pray too..

First of all, I am not disputing your knowledge on mycology, I’m just a noob.  I agree, you can’t sit on your ass and expect the universe to give you what you want. There has to knowledge and effort. Growing mushrooms has to be done properly or you’re just growing mold in a jar. Over the years I have come to believe that a spiritual world does exist. If that makes me a dumbass then I am a dumbass. I’m happier as a dumbass then I once was.
