did you case?

Does your PE variety normally blob?

Looks real good, but my PE would look so good and then only put out blobs  so frustrating, until I started casing it

Cased with just hydrated coir.

Edit, I have no clue? First time

PE blobs are supposed to be hella potent anyways, I haven't tried any of mine yet, but heard that from several people

I look forward to your updates, hopefully you get the less blobby genetics :super: some seem to do better than others

Keep them away from the Crips.

EDIT:
Harvest the blobs after the second flush (which will hopefully be normal PE fruits), or harvest as you like. They come off pretty easy if you just poke them with the blade at and angle and pop them up.

 fuckin' beat me to it Nulls

Using a casing of peat/verm/hyd lime (forgot exact ratio) seems to cut down on PE blobs. The mycelium also doesnt colonize it like a pseudo casing. It seems like it also helps to maintain surface conditions pretty well. The casing will dry before the myc, and stuff like that.

Dont thnk you can late case it though.
Do a search for Lotkid's PE tips.

PE mycelium definitely does colonize a casing of peat moss and vermiculite.

Walmart sells a product called jiffy mix that once hydrated to field capacity and properly pasteurized serves as a beautifully effective PE casing.

In my experience with PE not casing drastically cuts down on pinning performance, but truthfully I've only ever not cased PE once.

Your tub looks beautiful. The knots are really nice looking and it's ready to bloom to life for you in a few days tops

Edit:

You've got some airiel mycelium going on is the only thing which means the myc needs more fresh air but it still looks really nice. Increase fresh air exchange.

Yup, jst not like it does a pseudo casing.
Never used jiffy mix myself, but i hear it works perfect.

Jiffy mix is coir and peat mixed together.

So with that logic, you shouldn't use jiffy:confused:

I have stopped using casing layers on my APE but I just make sure all my to layer some coir on top so no grains are exposed.

But I see Mush is here so I’m excited to hear (read) his opinion

I only use Jiffy mix to case my PE...which is also the only.tjing I grow pretty much as far as actives go.

What I said was that peat moss/verm casings (including Jiffy) definitely do colonize the casing layer. [Just correcting misinformation]

Then I said that Wal Mart sells jiffy which is a beautiful ready in bag casing once it's hydrated and pasteurized.[offering my opinion on best casing to use]

I’ve never tried exposed grain always thought it was a no no but now you have me intrigued!
I know I’m not on you’re level mush cause I’m still happy with any pinset but one day I will be.

I really don't know what you are trying to say? Pretty much unless you case after pinning starts, the mycelium is going to colonize the casing. It is misinformation to say it does colonize some and not others...I have dozens of PE tubs logged on the Shroomery, feel free to look at any of them.

I got the same results with my apes doing the same thing u did. Very nice apes BTW! I wish I could get my old clone back that looked just like those

Myco217 - I know what your trying to say man. A pseudo casing will 100% fully colonized and a jiffy casing will only mostly colonize

That's what I said. There was obviously a misunderstanding. However i will not be accused of giving out misinformation if that is not the case. And certainly not when it's someone elses misunderstanding. Thats all.

All different tubs at pinning cased with Jiffy which is Peat/verm/coir:

I guess I just don't see what you mean by not fully colonizing the casing layer with peat moss? Maybe I just use special Jiffy mix

Oh hey look at that shit!

When i make peat/verm/hydlme casing for PE it never colonizes like that. It may get a bit up in it in one or two spots then stop, but never jst strait fully colonized.

No wonder you were like wtf? Lol

I wonder if it's a jiffymix vs home brew difference, or jst variability in variety or what.

Re: PE w/ coir 2 weeks [Re: Feasoghorm]

By the time mine fruits, it usually has colonized at least most of the jiffy casing.

I pretty much follow exactly what Frank does (and probably m217 as well, since he is franks disciple )

I usually put it into fruiting when it is barely colonized like 20-30% but by time it pins, it is damn near colonized..at least 70-80% sometimes it fully  colonized

This picture kind of shows what I mean

I have one that just went into fruiting I'll take pictures of the now and once fruits hit for a comparison

I could see it fruiting in some scenarios without colonizing completely

The difference is ph I'm not sure on the exact number. I learned this by failing miserably with pans. You don't want the casing layer colonized with pans so you bring the ph to around 8. In my limited experience at least.

I'm not sure of the ph you would want for cubes. I've been looking for an answer though

Some people like it, some don't. I don't care for exposed grains, so i case (non-PE) with a thin layer of CVG. From the sounds of it, casing any PE variety is a necessity, with jiffy mix being the weapon of choice.

@OP; looks good man! I'm excited for you
