Nausea - The Origins & History (Calling all the great minds!)
    #26012874 -

Now, we all know at least one way to ameliorate or entirely eliminate nausea at times experienced by taking mushrooms, but today I'd like to discuss what causes it.

There's been put forward multiple reasons, from enzymes to indigestible cell walls to trace contamnination, but rarely have I seen anything conclusive.

In this topic I'd like to gather all the information we have on this subject, and hopefully thus help devise better ways to combat the issue at the source.

I never get nausea with cubensis.

No matter how i ingest. Fresh, dried, tea.

Been eating all kind of wild edibles all my life.

A.muscaria is different story. If i take bigger dose i vomit.

I get slightly nauseous, but usually don’t throw up.

Tea completely eliminates nausea for me.

I have experimented, and will again soon, with making a variety of mushrooms a part of usual diet. I hate eating mushrooms. But, if I start with small amounts of store bought or wild harvested edibles, well cooked, about once or twice a week, increasing the amount consumed or decreasing the cook times to the point of being able to eat the edibles cooked or raw in average portions; then I find I am able to eat magic shrooms practically whole with minimal to no stomach upset.

That said, I still prefer tea over everything.

I eat edible mushrooms regularly and they don't bother me, fresh or cooked.  I make tea from cubes and other species not because of nausea reduction but to make it tolerable to consume 200g fresh cubes at one go.  That's what crazy tolerance and daily tripping will do for you. :laugh2:

But I don't get nausea from that, OTOH I've always done them as tea ever since the beginning.  That's just how it was done in this neck of the holy woods. :cookiemonster:

PS oh yes it's supposed to be the chitin in the cell walls.  I've no desire to chow down on a mess of fresh fruits to see if that's the case though.

Ok gentlemen there are serotonin receptors in the gut. The psilocybin excites these areas.
I dunno where I heard this but they sounded real smart telling me about it

I’ve vomited twice from mushrooms.  The first time I ever ate them and I ate about 5 grams it was a really heavy trip, and another time after eating 3.5 grams.  That second time I was smoking a lot of cigarettes and was pretty disgusted by them, when I woke up the next day I was done smoking, no desire, didn’t smoke for a year or two after that.  Last summer I was pretty hammered on booze and tripping and i fell and hurt my hand and puked, but that probably had more to do with the booze and sudden injury.  A few weeks ago I took two hits of acid and vomited a little on the come up, it was really intense, i was on a tidal flat very early in the morning before any food or coffee at low tide digging clams, and the ocean smell and all the wormy mud creatures really got in my head.  It felt like I was on a cosmic tilt a whirl being sucked into a whirlpool of a black hole that was a crabs mouth.
You know it really doesn’t bother me, I feel like if there’s something that’s got to come out I want it out.  Not that I like the feeling of nausea, I usually don’t get it, but if I get nauseous and puke, it’s pretty much over and I’m mostly tripping so hard that I put some significance behind it, like it’s a harsh attitude or something that is not healthy, so let it out.

Yes, SFAIK it affects the gut by slowing digestion.  This is why you don't want to eat much beforehand.  I've only noticed that with large doses though, and allowing a few hours after eating seems to be enough to avoid the effects, with tea anyway.  I've never puked on shrooms but I came close one time on a large dose where I'd eaten too closely to the trip.
