Its actually a simple clothes drawer with perlite in the bottom.

Disregard the holes in the tub,its reused from a garden project.

Thanks for the kind words.

Jake, I don't use root hormones to get my clones to root, I use cinnamon powder, it works just as good and is much cheaper, the cinnamon also is an antiseptic that keeps the clone safe until roots form.

Doc are you cloning Kratom?
I got pot to clone in dirt with little problem (although I did use rooting powder) what is it about cinnamon that makes them root? The aero mist says no hormones are needed but again other kratom growers recommended clone x because of their difficulties cloning

Struggling a bit with these Cambos.  Cased with 50/50+ (7.5pH) 12 days ago.  In the GH, steady 77*, slight breeze from PC fan, and 98-ish% RH.  Started getting some activity on the casing layer in the past 3-4 days, but still no pins.

Thinking maybe the casing is/was too wet as I was misting a 2-3 times a day but then cut back to only mist obvious dry spots when / as needed.  Could be coincidence / timing - not sure.  The casing is damp (more wet than dry certainly) but no pooling of water or anything, etc.  Any thoughts?

Note - that slightly dark rectangle shape in both images in the bottom /middle is my phone shadow.

How thick is ur case? U want it paper thin. U want it damp so you can generate evaporation

I would say between 1/4 and 1/8" in most places.  With hpoo there are craters and valleys so there are going to be some spots deeper but on the average I'd say 1/4-1/8. I used an offset spatula to spread it out nicely.

struggling to understand this species. it must be temperature causing the sluggishness i'm getting. three inch plates stored in the upper 60sF, transferred 5/5. outlines marked 5/18 and brought upstairs with temps in the mid 70sF. most diameters doubled in a week what initially took two weeks. also, i dropped that first plate so the wedge hit the bottom. smh.

all the cultures i put to oats a long ass time ago look ugly to outright trashy. just took too long.
going to try agar to wbr jars.

It's tropical, sure I remember reading Jake incubates in the 80's? Lol, someone who knows better will chime in, but I think your temps are subpar

Yeah if I want em to move I crank up to about 82f it’s cooler now because I have other exotics that do not like it that warm but prefer mid 70s the pans do fine just move a little slower. One thing I have noticed consistently is pans are much more picky about grain moisture. If you get it right they will move much faster than cubes and are very easy to work with however cubes are much more flexible on grain moisture. The more careful I am with my grain runs and the more perfect I try to get them the smoother everything else goes. Then there are other times where the culture seems to stall for no apparent reason i usually just discard the iso and MoveOn. Another interesting tidbit in my experience thinner poured dishes are better for pans.

interesting, i do notice the cultures i've had universally destroy the food color in the agar medium right away. assuming that means myc reaches thru the medium to do this, physically thinner medium would compel quicker growth horizontally. jesus aitch i'm a geek.

ok cool thanks fellows. i'll be cooking some rice this afternoon. might try some LC jars for giggles. warm storing everything pan cy related. fingers crossed.

Well my experience so far is that the WC,TX stuff sucks ass. Just my personal experience. I just have not been able to get a good culture of it.

I will be starting attempt #3. So don't get down about it. Pans are a bitch sometimes.

I just put two bama trays to fruiting last night. Those were a second attempt. This time it looks like two of the best trays
I've ever had.

Getting that right culture is 90% of the work.

strangely, that makes me feel better. tho the aussie and wild (florida i think) cultures weren't substantially different.

back in my initial days in mushcult, it was partly frustration with pan cyans that made me quit. i'm older and crankier now. not giving up so fast.

good luck with them trays, baby. your best trays ever must really be a sight.

We shall see. I have a feeling pans piss a lot of people off. What you don't see when people post pics
are all the failures.

maybe that's what we need. an official catastrophic failures thread. everyone post up your fotos of moldy jars, tammed out plates, trich laden tubs, months old fruitless trays, etc. a place dedicated to the notion that misery loves company.

on second thought, no. we don't need that at all. but i might start a failures journal.

Great attitude Asura

Finally got some decent sized fruit. The original fruit i collected each weighed 0.25g dry and initially i expected fruits of that size.  Will be cloning these and hope for the best.

oh man, why didn't i think of that?! losing my damn mind. gonna sign off for a while.

last question for today, kinda following up on shaperdreaming's question a little while ago. LC to sterile substrate in jars. aside from extra prep work, any reason not to?

Contaminants are notoriously difficult to see in liquids... LI/LC can stretch a culture: including one of hidden trichoderma or bacteria lol

Really depends on how confident you are in your sterile technique, and the cleanliness of the culture that you're working with...

I never get obvious contams with pans these days. Most of my failures SEEM to be from using shitty cultures, which
admittedly could be contaminated...it's just not trich or something obvious like that.

My last run of WC,TX for instance just looked shitty when it was growing out in the bag. I just threw it away and
didn't even try to fruit it. If I am honest with myself, I knew the LC didn't seem as healthy as I liked either.
I should have dumped there and started over.

Most of problems are from having an overly optimistic outlook, but that's changing  I just chucked a bunch of
plates today because "fuck those plates!" I knew they weren't going anywhere. I'd like to think my failures are
still teaching me a lot, though, so I think it's very disingenuous not discussing them (for me at least).
