first time growing witg brf jars in a very small apartment, he
    #26011732 -

Im using the brf jars method with brazilian spore syringe, today is my third day after inoculation, below is my whole process up until this point, there are steps i didnt do quite right and also the hygene level was not perfect.

1. I received my syringe about 2 weeks ago, i just kept the parcel on a shelf, and only started a few days ago. I put 2 cups of slightly coarse verm, and added 1 cup of tap water(is this a problem of not using distilled water?) then put in a drainer(i have been using that drainer for cooking, and its the cheapest one made with metal wire and its a bitch to clean, so it can still have remains of oil and stuff, I just took for granted that my steam syerilization process will kill off all germs, so i didnt use a new drainer) to squeez off excess water drips to achieve field capacity, then i added 1 cup of cheap brown rice powder, then i mixed the two thoroughly.
notes: i noticed the vermbrf mixture is a bit like cake mixture, like have many clumps of the mixture, i dont kniw if this is a problem, iys definitely not too wet.

2 i pack the verm mix into my 250ml canning jars, which i already put 4 holes on all the lids, i pack them up lightly not too tight, then i added my dry barrier using my medium coarse verm(its not too coarse but definitely not fine, i dont have a grinder, and i didnt kniw until after, and i might have packed too thick of dry verm barrier, is that a problem though?)

3 then i tighten the lides abd wrap with foil, and placed them in a pot with loose lid, where some amount of steam can Escape)
i put a plate upside down and some foil balls down the bottom of pot to elevated my jars, and about 3/4 of tap water , so it reached a little bit higher than the bottom of my jars.
I turned on high and switched to low on a simmer, and set my timer for 120 minutes

I had to add hot water 3 times during the steam sterile process, so i think this can ve hugely affected the effectiveness.

4 after that, I keep tge jars in the pot and let it cool for 6 hours, and take them out and cool them in a area with air con on high cool, by the eighth hour, the jars felt very cool to the touch, and i left them chill for another 30 mins,

5 Inoculation

I thoroughly wiped down all my equipment including the bottom and top of jars with 75 percent iso, put new clothes and gloves, but i did not wear a mask.
And yes i removed the foil already, i did not tape the holes at all. Then i flame the needle everytime i finish inserting in one hole,(too much flaming?)

But i later realised i didnot inserte the needle deep enough, Just a bit under the dry barrier surface, there were 2 jars i got it deep enough though.but i def over inject my first jar, i couldnt see the parameter so i just guesss it, until i had close than nothing left for my last jar

Then i just open the lid of my glove box abd let them sit there, 5 jars 250ml in total

Day 2 no sign, day 3 no sign

And i spray and wipe down my colonisation area and jars, is that too much, will tge disinfectent kill the mycelium and slow it or prevent it from growing?

Patience is key. Spores will take up to 2 or 3 weeks to germinate so just leave them for now.

Your method is fine for brf cakes. I nocced up a bunch of cakes in open air with very poor sterile technique and they turned out fine.

In the meantime, if you have more spores, nocc up some more jars. Good to have a few projects on the go to save any disappointment.

Definitely do a lot more reading to improve sterile technique though. I've been reading up for months now and I still feel as if I've barely scratches the surface of mycology. Consider buying a pressure cooker too - it will remove any worries about sterility right up to the point you dump them in the PC.

1. 2/1/1 verm, water,(mix) then add brf (mix)--no straining fluff with hands.

2. gently place in jars--not pack. Add top layer of verm

3. lid is placed directly on top not loose.  Water should be below jar level.

4. No need to alcohol wipe the top after taking the tinfoil off.

5. .5-1 cc per port....Unless it is life and death....then always 10 cc no matter what the solution is.
