Natalensis. Let's see where this goes. Didn't have much luck growing these in bags.

I'm using this TEK as my first grow and not sure I have enough coir because you know, sometime simple math is hard, and getting more messes up my multi hundred mile trip to get everything else I need, ie, can't put it off long enough to wait.
Question is, can I substitute/use in addition to the coir some store bought manure? Maybe using the coir for the casing only? Bonus question, should I pasteurize the store bought manure if I use that?

Manure can be used as substrate if it has been properly pasteurized

Ratios don’t need to be that precise. Use what you have and it should be fine

You can use manure, but yes you will need to pasteurize it. This thread might answer some questions.

Might as well case with the manure to. It's generally better than coir for both things; most people would bulk with coir then case with manure cause of the costs.

OK, that lead to even more questions.
Is it safe to say, I could mix the coir and manure, lets say 50/50, and pasteurize both together for an hour keeping the temps between 140-160F?
If all the PF jars make it, 24 half pints, I will need 6 Qts of sub and 3 Qts of coir for casing which I guess I would just do the bucket TEK for the coir.
All these different methods tend to be confusing for the new comers.

Something else to think about, Ack! I guess I'll see how much of everything I have when it is all assembled and make a decision then. Steam pasteurizing in a bag seems pretty easy with just poo or a poo coir mix and then just go straight to the shoeboxes from there.

I just finished reading this entire thread... LOTS good info for a noob like myself.
This really should be a must read for anyone starting out.
I do have a couple questions:
- How is this really any different then Munchauzen shoebox method? His are with tubs inside a tub. Is it because his substrate has more water (bucket TEK) and no top misting?
I'm just waiting for some other supplies for agar and this will be my method for sure.
Oh... why should you case Penis Envy's? And how do you know if you're too late?

It's effectively the same thing. Some people may find their shoeboxes get dried out (I personally don't), in which case, you could put shoeboxes inside a monotub for better control of moisture & FAE.
I'd rather just grow 2 shoeboxes alongside a monotub rather than put the shoeboxes into a monotub, but that's just me

Use the search function. In short, it prevents blobbing.

I just want to say this is my first foray into grain and THANK YOU COMMUNITY. I did 12-quart jars 3.5cc MSS. Used 1:1.5 G2SUB ratio as per tek. FOLLOWED TO A T! These went G2B 10am on 9/17 and into a self designed martha. This is today! Thank you so much for this. I know as per tek not to open, but does some of this myc seem a bit "Fuzzy"? I also have Z-strain and B+ that went G2SUB on 9/21 and is already showing casing layer break through. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. I am unable to attach pics, so the reddit is below...again, please give me your thoughts, opinions, responses.

Keep us posted pls. I'm a few weeks behind you Iguana84 and planning on using this same tek. I don't have a martha tent though.

This thread saved me from giving up! I am 9 days in on my first shoebox and I’m seeing pins! Super excited. I had to mix 1 pint of BRF spawn and 1 pint of grain and I followed the tek to a tee- for once. Thank youuuu!

Your measurements sound right. The ratio is 1:1.5

Thank you for the quick response now. does this all look good? for the directions to prepare the coir? this is for approx. 3 shoeboxes using 3 quarter pint mycojars of brf.
While you're prepping the dry coir, or after you're done, start boiling the water. We want about 8% LESS than is recommended to get to field capacity for this Tek. To reach field capacity you want to start the math with (60g)coir to (300g) water. For this tek we'll be using (0.75 L) + 2 cups of pre heating waterThe extra 1cup is for pre-heating the cooler.
2 cup which will be used to pre-heat the cooler. After the water is boiling take two cups (4.8 oz) of that water and pour it into the empty cooler. Put the lid on the cooler, set a timer for 10 min, and turn the boiling water on the stove down to "LOW" (keep the lid on). If you don't turn down the water it will reduce too far and mess up your volumes. The quick list of what to do for this tek is simple: 1) Take 60g of coir. 2) Boil .75L of water 2.4oz 3) Put 2 cups of boiling water into a cooler for 10 min to pre-heat the cooler 4) Dump out the water 5) Add the coir the cooler, then pour water over it 6) Close lid, wait 60 min 7) After an hour stir up the coir to try make sure you don't get dry spots

I honestly find it easier not to “measure” for my substrate. I use a jigsaw to cut off how much coir I need (usually too much, still working on that). I boil a big pot of water (way too much) and pour that over my 50/50 coir/verm mix in the cooler. I let it sit and stir a few times until it cools. Then I use a strainer and with gloved hands I squeeze the living crap out of the mix until I have enough for my box. The leftovers and remaining coir-water gets thrown into my outside “failed jar” plot.
Don’t trust me though, I’m still on my first set of shoeboxes 😂😂😂 Go with God!
It sounds like you have a solid plan though- happy shrooming!
