Since spawn ratio is based off hydrated substrate, it seems logical to just hydrate the coir and split it up 3 ways and then add a quart of spawn to each pile of coco. Spawn ratio's don't need to be precise - just get it close.

What kind of ratio do you want to use?
Are you adding vermiculite?
I usually go with a 1:3 ratio with about a 1/2 quart top layer.
If you wanted to do that, just hydrate the whole 650g brick add 2 quarts of verm and about 4 quarts of h2o. Makes approx 9-10 quarts sub.
If you want a 1:2 ratio just use half that.
325g coir 1quart verm 2 quarts-ish h20
Good luck!

Th e problem I'm still having is how to measure out coir once hydrated if doing coir for 3 shoeboxes let's say how do you measure to split up evenly( assuming you are doing it so e other way then weight) How much dry coir weight = 1 quart hydrated coir. If I've missed it I m sorry I've been studying this Tek for about a month I'm just trying to run 3 not five so....
I hydrate a 650g brick of coir with 3.5 liter of water. I get 8 shoeboxes from that.
So if you do the math, for 3 shoeboxes you'd need 244g of dry coir, 1.3 liters of water.
Edit: I just realized you said per quart. By my calculations I get
1 quart of hydrated coir = 54g dry coir + 291ml water

For 8 shoeboxes?? Just a touch more than 1qt of coir per shoebox? I don´t know man. I usually do a brick to 3. 2 mycoquarts of spawn per shoebox. Makes ~1,5qt worth of spawn and ~3qts of coir.
The guys above pretty much nailed it. Hydrate that brick to field capacity, save some coir for the top layer, dump in the spawn, distribute the coir, mix up properly, even out the surface, apply the top layer, mist, and done.
Hint: H2O content for hydration is meant roughly. You always need to test it after hydration, as brands and bricks differ in weight, compression and water holding capacity. F.e for me one brick wants no more than 2600ml water, it´s soup after that.

Ok thanks I'm running brf cakes so only 1 quart myco wanting to do 1:1;5 ratio just coir little gypsum. I know some of this seems basic or obvious to some but I'm knew to measuring through different weights and different convertions I'm not familiar. I'm not familiar with metric system even though makes perfect sense everything in base of tens but I don't know it so this part is confusing to me. I'm not sorry for not understanding and asking more experienced to maybe explain so it makes sense. If the question is just to basic you really do t have to put your opinion in on how it's so easy without "saying" it.

No problem
So i think you´ll spend 4 half pints to a box. Aim for a ~3" of total substrate height, give or take. No need to be absolutely precise here, everything from 1:2 - 1:4 is fine. More important is clean spawn, proper mixing up and the right conditions.
Btw i´d skip the gypsum, but doesn´t hurt if you use. Sometimes i use it in grain soaking water, especially with WBS to prevent it a bit from clumping. Or as a buffer for a casing against ph-swings.

Hello everyone! I have been following this TEK and I am super happy to say I am starting to get my first little mushrooms popping up. Things seem to be going well my only question is: I see all these pictures on the form of these super perfect even pin sets and I was wondering what steps I can take to achieve that. My pins seems very kind of sparse. Thanks for the great TEK Shaper!

I'm loving this tek but I'm VERY confused about FAE.
I was planning on doing Pastys EZ Dial Tubs, but don't really want to poke holes in my plastic tubs which is why I'm intrigued about trying this shoebox.
Yet, I don't understand where the FAE is coming from? Isn't it a very important pinning trigger? Could I simply close any plastic tub and wait for shrooms?

Shoeboxes are designed to have more airflow. Most of them dont sit completely flush. The FAE comes in from under the lid.
You can't do this with just any plastic box as some of them have rubbet gasket seals. You definitely have to mod those.
I've used this tek with really great success so far.

There you go! This explains exactly what you're looking for as to why the 6qt shoebox is used. It has a special feature that allows proper FAE. This post answers your question!

It'd be nice to see where the air can flow through, but that clears up my confusion, thanks! So I'm guessing since its not a big hole as in a monotub for example, shrooms really don't need THAT much fae. Isn't it technically possible to use a "no name" tub, latch the lids and place the lid on top of the latched lids?

Yes it is but maybe not exactly like you describe because it all comes down to how well or poorly the lid of the particular brand of tote you buy fits into the tote. The tighter the fit, the more adjustment you’ll need to make to allow enough FAE. That being said, unless there is a gasket on the lid, most any brand of 6qt tote will have enough gaps as-is.

Hey congrats on the growing but I have to say in your signature "if your going to be dumb you got to be tough" is a song lyric from Roger Alan Wade 2005 also covered by some punk bands sorry just couldn't let your dad take credit for some one else's song

Unmodified monotubs are very common as well. A large tub with the lid partially cracked works pretty well. It's actually the standard for many folks now - don't mod your tub unless it's not working, aka if it ain't broke don't fix it.
