Dunk and roll is for cakes, this you mix your spawn into coir and just let it ride.
In my opinion shoeboxes are the easiest method to learn with. Fruiting cakes requires knowledge of surface conditions and how to maintain them - which is exactly what new growers don’t know how to do yet.
Yes, that's the idea I've got about all this matter and it's why I'm spawning using the PF-Tek and then move to this gorgeous Tek... but then I had a doubt about when to leave the PF-Tek, so I asked. : ) I don't think there's an easier way to spawn, not having a pressure cooker.
There's any benefit in making the substrate float just before harvesting (Bod's way)? It's "just" to have it at the top level of the shoebox and make it comfortable to harvest?

Yep, it's about convenience and not risking breaking your sub apart by lifting it out

I always add a liner to this tek for ease of clean up and so I can lift the sub out.
It also helps prevent side pins!

A plastic one is OK or it should a biodegradable one? Also, how do you "sterilize" it? Alcohol ISO 70% all over the bag is enough?

I use a black plastic yard bag straight from the roll.
I don't sanitize it with alcohol or anything.
You could wash it with soap and water if it makes you feel more comfortable but I never do. They are usually pretty clean straight from the roll.
If you like to peep the sub you could get a clear liner. I just had black already.
I cut it a little bigger to mix the sub and spawn cuz its a mess then I cut it down with scissors after.

Yep, no need to clean the liner. At that stage sterility isn't important
Personally, I don't see the need for liners in shoeboxes. If you pack the sub lightly and flatten it out, and have your water content right it shouldn't pull from the sides until after a couple flushes. Side pins seems to have more to do with the surface conditions not being optimal but even if you get side pins, the floating method of harvesting makes getting side fruits easier too

I agree with the no liner thing. I never use them, but I have been really struggling with SWPE in linerless shoeboxes, so maybe they are the exception. No matter how densely I pack the sub, thick my pseudo casing is, or how perfect my surface conditions look, I still can’t eliminate the side blobs. I’ve gotten so annoyed that I’m switching to melmak and APE next rotation.

So my shoeboxe sub shouldn't be pulling away from the sides before my first flush with this Tek? I thought it was supposed to be a little on the dry side and then more moist in top.

My jars are colonizing, i found some mark down shoe boxes, but it didn't hit me till i got home, they have dont have clear lids. As far as light for the boxes, im going to need to find clear lids? a lamp coming from the side is not going to work. and cutting hole in top of solid grey lid just gonna mess up the micro climate ye?

Light angled to the sides is quite a good idea. If just the lid is opaque you´ll be fine. Rotate them once every day.

Instead of more lids, get a 64qt tub, as long as yer shopping, like this currently in my sig.
That can fit two easily or three shoeboxes sandwiched in with the lids off for fruiting. 64 Qt Sterilite 1497 The wet Perlite makes for awesome humidity. Some people don't even put holes in the tubs. My tub's holes stayed duct tapped until the very end of fruiting and I removed the tape with micropore tape underneath.

Maybe you have some plastic bags lying around? Have a look here, you may get the idea

This is my first grow and I am using this method. I'm very tempted to quickly open the lid and give it a spray because the substrate seems dry. See how it is a lighter color than the substrate around the edges? Would it be okay to give it a quick spray?

It’s ok to open a tub, it won’t contaminate anything.
But misting won’t fix underhydrated coir. One realization I had that helped a lot is that misting is not to give the shrooms water, it’s to keep the surface conditions on point. The coir should have plenty of water in it when you spawn the tub.
Yours looks fine to me though, I wouldn’t worry about it unless it looks dry once the surface is colonized.

Thanks! I was mostly worried about messing with the microclimate since this technique is so adamant about keeping the lid closed. But I peeked in there and you were right, the surface conditions looked fine.

For coir I have always used Bod's coir TEK, works like a charm for shoeboxes.
Here is a pic of my latest boxes. Two are comming along nicely already, the other two need a couple of days more, just very small pins for now.

New grower here. Super interesting TEK. Going to try this before I go into Monotubs.
So for a first time shoebox-er, should I go for coir only for the substrate?
Just wondering if there is any reason why I shouldn't use a CVG substrate instead of just Coir, apart from wanting to make things more simple and easy?
Would using Coir only, result in less likelihood of contamination?
I have all the ingredients, coir, vermiculate and gypsum. And don´t mind using that for substrate if it´s better.

This is day 7 of my first attempt at this tek. Got some fuzzy myc poking through, but I don’t see any water droplets on it. Think I need to give the coir a good mist?
There is a bit of verm added to the coir because I made the coir slightly too wet.
