I like them, too. Usually they don't have this many pointy caps.
It's AmazonasPES, multispore though every flush looks different.

This is a great thread (and all it's associated SFF threads) for n00bs. Good detail
Curious as to how you keep it going ShaperDreaming? Something like this? How many times can you expand out without negatively affecting the shrooms in some way (age, etc.) needing to start fresh with spores (from your own grow, maybe get lucky and have a plate pin and spore in it's sterile environment)?
- Start with agar
- a2g one or more grain jars to use as a master
- g2g the masters - or g2g 1 and store the others in the fridge until the next round? I read somewhere colonized grain jars can be stored in the fridge, I don't remember for how long though...
- repeat
UPDATE: Wow - that's super similar to Mushboy's method. For any interested n00Bs he starts talking about it in more detail here.

Hi
Its my second try and all of them get contamination after a long wait.
What might be causing this issue?
Too moist? - Maybe i should wait for the box to colonize and then add the top layer with spray?
Any other reasons?

Contamination is usually always your spawn. What were your steps before now? How did you inoculate your grains?

Been following this tek before with good result. I have to do BRF cakes that i crumble because my PC cant go up to 15psi.
So everything all good did 2 boxes one with 5cakes and one with 4. With a ratio of 1:1 I started the boxes 2weeks ago but they aint fully colonized yet, it goes slow i aint in a rush but just wonder why?
Anyhow i open the lid on the box with 4brf in it and will see if some FAE can help its on its way.
My question for you guys is. 1. How come the colonize time is so slow? People say 10days should be enough for it. 2. Was it a good thing to open the lid for some FAE or should i close it up again.
Thx

Here you have pictures of the surface of the box that was open. Its a little more moist than the one that i still keep closed. Other than that they pretty much are the same.

Too Much Surface Water?
The tek notes that surface area will be beaded with water, but there should be no water beads below the surface - which is what I have (see circle area in pic below). But is this too much water on the surface or should I just leave it. The second pic is of the entire surface for reference/comments.

Thats about the max amount I let build up in my shoeboxes before sopping it up with a paper towel. They stay pretty swampy with the lids on, so you may need to expose them to a tiny bit more FAE. Not sure if it would justify unlatching the lid though - that adds a relatively large amount of FAE since the tubs are so small. Maybe stick a small oscillating fan in the room with them?

So long as the only place this water is showing up is along the side walls, it's fine. You don't want that in the other areas of your surface. On the sides, it is just from condensation running down the walls. No big deal.

Hello,
Quick question.
When the lid is latched, is it ok that for someone to have their shoebox in a room where the ceiling fan is running most of the day? Or should it be moved to another room?
Also curious if it matters when it's time to unlatch.
Thank you

You'll have to just watch how the condensation is, I could never have a fan in the room with mine.

I grew successfully in a room with a ceiling fan on all the time, but I double tubbed all of my shoeboxes in a larger box. They seem to favor being placed in a larger box anyways, in my experience.

It’ll depend on the rh in your room mostly, and where the tub is.
During summer when I have to run the ac 24/7 mine instantly dry out. I run them inside pasty tubs like he just said.
Works great.

Hi, question from a noob. When doing this shoebox tek with a BRF cake, do you soak the cake in water before grating it to mix with the coir, or do you skip the soak?
