There was a pink oyster grow 2 weeks back that was done in a tub, beautiful looking mush as well.

Do all of you guys completely ignore your shoeboxes until it’s time to harvest? Mine are starting to pin and I’m seeing a bunch of side pins, and fuzzy feet + oddly shaped pins growing on the surface.
Not sure if I should open the lid for a bit to increase FAE or give the surface a mist or just leave it alone. Also not really sure if there’s even a point to fucking with the setup if they’re this far along.

I just did some shoeboxes too and tried the ol' just leave it alone until caps open. I had same thing happen, some fuzzy feet and small heads.
On the next round of boxes, I flipped lids at pinning and that helped a ton, gotta dial in due to your environment

I monitor my shoeboxes 9 days after spawning. If surface conditions arent right, I mist. Once a decent pinset forms, I dub tub it. People crap on dub tubbing but i love the terrarium look. From there I monitor it and mist as needed. If it needs more fae, i use chop sticks to raise the top tub.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have no clue if I’m too late because a decent amount of a pins have already come in, but I have the lids flipped now and I’ll just manually monitor surface conditions from here on out. The pins with the fuzziest stems already tore their veils and they’re like half an inch tall

If you are getting some really BIG fruits in your shoebox, and you can see on the first flush that the substrate is shrinking up away from the sides quite a lot (meaning the mycelium is RAPIDLY consuming the substrate), do you ever add water by side-watering to allow the fruits to keep getting bigger? I'm wondering if my fruit sizes have been limited in my shoebox grows because they need more moisture than these little boxes with shallow substrate can contain. I will note that I see more condensation on the inside of my lids when I have big fruits growing - as if to suggest that the big fruits not only need a lot of moisture to grow but that they are also sweating it out into the air too, which makes me think even more that I should be watering.

You can bottom water while they grow. I wouldn't add allot and I would pour out after a couple hours.

I put this Maz shoebox into pinning/fruiting conditions 3 days ago (22°C with fanning & light misting 3 times a day). Does it look too wet?

That does look pretty wet. It's a shoebox, it should be pretty set and forget. No misting, no fanning, just lid flipping at the right time. Stop misting, I would fan it for a few days to try and get some moisture from the surface but other than that leave it be. Flip the lid when your pinset comes in, but next time. Click the lid on and leave it alone for about 14 days.

Cheers, I'll fan a bit more & hopefully reduce the moisture & leave it alone. I should know better but was trying to speed things up! I've got a 2nd box about ready to flip so will just flip & leave. Thanks for your input.

That's way too wet Johnjoe. Like Crackatoa said, no fanning, no misting. Put the lid on it upside down and leave it alone. That's all you need to do. But do let that water evaporate off the top before you put the lid back on.

One thing you might want to check since it seems so wet. Tip the shoebox up and check for excess water in the bottom, pour it out.

Cheers guys. There's no extra at the bottom, it's shrinking away from the sides quite quickly. I've now managed to evaporate a lot off the top. Thanks all for the input, much appreciated.

3 days & I've got pins! 🤩 Looks like I definitely made my coir too-wet - 630g block into 2.9l boiling water or 1:4.6 - think I'll give a 1:4 mix a try next time. That 2nd box I had colonising looks contaminated now, but at least the first one's pinning. 🍄 Thanks again for the help!

Always a good idea to weigh your bricks beforehand. They can vary pretty much and often. You`ll never have constant consistancy though. If it`s a bit wet, squeeze out or throw in some verm. Or have a look at this: Smarts Phucket Bucket - Coir prep

Always test field cap before you use the coir too.
If it’s too wet either squeeze it out or add verm or coir.

This tub was made via this shoebox-TEK. Third flush, though.
