So this tek is about keeping the lid latched...

Did you spawn with oats? I think I will try oats next time. WBS is coming along , just not as well as rye

I figured it out I was going a little to hamfisted when misting. I let it dry a touch and boom top colonizing.
Mushboy if I remember right I read that you use unmodded plastic kids for spawn jars, do you tighten them down or leave them a little loose before the PC and after?

I used brf cakes, millet and rye. I would say the brf cakes are doing the best for my situation.

They aren't made for processing, so I turn mine back a quarter turn before the PC, then tighten them when I pull them out. I've only used them for agar, so I'm not sure how spawn would do with a tight lid.

What causes wetness and beading below the top layer?

Here's my first proper agar->grain->shoebox result from this TEK. My proud baby Keepers Creepers (3/4 qt of grain spawn, 1.2qt of coir; lower on the spawn side as the second jar got contams so had to toss it ).
Pins:

First few bigger ones that I cut off earlier:

Hi everybody - quick question about this tek.
Had two bags of rye spawn (B+). Bulked each in their own shoebox, 1:1 to coir. Both bulked and kept in very similar conditions. Using an aquarium heater to keep temps 77-80.
. Left box is Bag A, right is Bag B. Colonization difference is pretty visible.
T+10days Bag A: shows fast and excellent myc colonization. Already starting some pins

Bag B: shows no visible colonization.

I haven't opened the boxes at all.
Can someone help me figure out what's going on with Bag B? The only difference I can think of is the sealed lid - Box B has a better seal than A, so maybe it's too tight?

Always read that temps should be around 77-81, and that area is around 62-67. Is less important during fruiting?
I had the same thought about dryness. How could I rehydrate? Spray bottle from above? The bulk is cased with straight coir.
Thank you!
ps. Box a is showing beautiful pin action.

I would try to mist that box b heavily and take it off the heater. a space heater pointed away is better if it really gets too cold but the cold also makes fat shrooms, it may just take a tad longer to grow. I'm only speaking from my experiences.
